Trans Woman Peeps on Girls After Joining Sorority, Students File Lawsuit

Seven University of Wyoming students are suing their sorority after it allowed a “peeping” biological male to join their chapter. The lawsuit alleges that transgender student Artemis Langford, 21, spied on the sorority sisters while they undressed and would often stare at the girls for hours in the common area, at one point displaying a visible erection. Langford, who is 6 feet, 2 inches tall, and weighs over 260 pounds, was admitted to the sorority under pressure from the Kappa Kappa Gamma (KKG) national council, according to the suit.

“An adult human male does not become a woman just because he tells others that he has a female ‘gender identity’ and behaves in what he believes to be a stereotypically female manner,” the lawsuit says, which was viewed by Cowboy State Daily.

Langford was reportedly accepted to KKG last September after applying. Despite being biologically male, he was inducted with the support of the national council, which allegedly pressured the University of Wyoming to violate voting procedures. KKG describes itself as a “single-gender” organization in its guidelines but also states that it accepts both “women” and “individuals who identify as women.”

In an interview with the local publication The Branding Iron in October, Langford stated,

“I feel so glad to be in a place that I think not only shares my values, but to be in a sisterhood of awesome women that want to make history.”

But the seven plaintiffs, who remain anonymous, describe being “intimidated” by Langford. The transgender inductee, despite not formally living at the sorority house, was described by the lawsuit as having spent long periods of time sitting in the common room staring at the sorority sisters and even voyeuristically “peeping” at them.

“One sorority member walked down the hall to take a shower, wearing only a towel. She felt an unsettling presence, turned, and saw [Langford] watching her silently.”

The court document continues, describing that,

“[Langford] has, while watching members enter the sorority house, had an erection visible through his leggings… Other times, he has had a pillow in his lap.”

Langford is also described as having spied on several women as they changed clothes during a slumber party and taking photos, after which he “repeatedly questioned the women about what vaginas look like, breast cup size, whether women were considering breast reductions and birth control.”

The plaintiffs seek to revoke Langford’s membership status in the sorority and seek unspecified damages from the national organization. They allege that KKG pressured members into inducting Langford into the sorority and falsely promised that acceptance would require a unanimous vote. Members were reportedly told it would be transphobic to vote ‘no.’

A spokesperson for KKG’s national council has denied the lawsuit’s allegations in an email to the Associated Press, saying that the document “contains numerous false allegations.” The group reportedly stands by its policy of not discriminating “based on factors including gender identity.”
