California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s obsession with Ron DeSantis backfired Monday night after attempting to blame one of his policies for a recent mass shooting in Florida.
Nine people were shot in Florida’s Hollywood Boardwalk Memorial Day evening, including four minors. The exact motive is currently unknown, but five suspected gang members have been arrested in connection with the crime, with a sixth still at large.

California Governor Gavin Newsome immediately leaped on the opportunity to blame DeSantis for the shooting, citing a recent bill he signed in April.

Newsom is wrong, or, at the very least, using misleading phrasing. The bill permitted permitless concealed carry, eliminating the red tape that used to come with being allowed to carry a firearm outside the home. However, the statement did not touch all licensing requirements necessary to purchase and own a gun, including the measures that Newsom,
However, this is not the most significant issue with Newsom’s claim. DeSantis press secretary Jeremy Redfern tweeted that the law does not take effect until June 1st.

Always having to try and score cheap points off the suffering of others. The law is ONLY available to people LEGALLY able to get a gun, and carry concealed already (So Background checks) Yes, you dont have to take an hour in a room and shoot 3 shots from your gun that isnt really training anyway So no Gavin, you can’t take our rights. stuff it.

They aren’t. They’re still required to purchase a gun in Florida and will continue to be after the new law goes into affect, which it hasn’t even yet. Gavin is just a liar.

Another user pointed out that the gunfire was likely due to gang-related violence, which gun laws wouldn’t impact.
I'm sure the gang bangers considered the law that hasn't even gone into effect yet. Considering this was gang violence by all means PLEASE request that the gang members all attend firearm safety training prior to committing GANG VIOLENCE. Actually, you know what would be better?…

Despite Newsom’s challenges, at this point, DeSantis hasn’t bothered to respond to the California Governor himself.
