With the win, the newly selected Miss Universe Netherlands is the first-ever transgender woman to win a national title. He is also only the second-ever transgender individual to have participated in the prestigious Miss Universe pageant. T
According to Mint, “Kollé aspires to be a prominent voice and role model for the Queer community and aims to dedicate her career to supporting individuals who have faced rejection from their families during their transition journey.”
In an Instagram post written in Dutch, Kolle celebrated the win and announced he wanted to be an example for children to emulate.
“It’s unreal, but I can call myself @missnederland 2023. It was an educational and wonderful process, my year can’t go wrong anymore I am so proud and happy I can’t describe it. I made my community proud and showed it can be done….. And wherever you are in the world, I want to be there for you and be the example that I myself missed as a little me. On to many more adventures, let’s get @missuniverse ready. So excited!!!”
Reactions to this biological man being selected as the winner of a woman’s beauty pageant have often been adverse, with one Dutch commentator calling it predictable and boring.
“A man just won ‘Miss Netherlands’ 2023. Considering the fact that we live in a post-Truth world, I wasn’t even expecting anything else. It’s all so predictable and unoriginal at this point.”

Some users commented that Kolle’s pageant win is insulting to women.
Women empowerment now means..
When women allow men to appropriate them ..
Never want to hear claims of mansplaining again …It's their own fault for allowing and not standing up for themselves..

Misogyny is real and the worst offenders are men pretending to be women.

Others compared Kolle to the pageant winner in Russia and the runner-up in the Netherlands, claiming the runner-up to be the true victor. The implication is that politics, not true beauty, contributed to Kolle’s victory.
“WHY do women put up with this outrage? The one on the left is Miss Netherlands and then there is Miss Russia. One is a he and one is a she. Can you tell who’s who? STOP THE MADNESS.”

This news comes against the backdrop of a recent change in management for Miss Universe. Chakrapong “Anne” Chakrajutathib, a transgender Thai businessperson and activist, purchased the Miss Universe organization for $20 million last year.
