New ‘Meth Gator’ Disaster Parody Film in the Works Inspired By ‘Everyday Life’ in Florida

It sounds like a Florida headline, but it is actually a new movie coming to theaters soon. “Attack of the Meth Gator” will be hitting the silver screen this summer. The parody film production company Asylum made the announcement on Twitter following the box office success of Elizabeth Banks’ “Cocaine Bear.”

“Hold our bear… I mean, beer. Coming for your life this summer,” the company wrote. The announcement, which shows a massive, meth-crazed gator storming a tropical beach, has been viewed over 3 million times.

“Please tell me this real and not a joke!” one user responded.

“This is real!” Asylum replied. “We’re pumping the meth into Florida’s freshwater reserves as we speak!”

The Asylum film company are veteran in the monster-disaster movie genre, having produced titles such as Sharknado, Mega Shark Versus Crocosaurus, Mega Python Versus Gatoroid, and 5-Headed Shark Attack. The company specializes in “mockbusters”— cheaply produced parodies of blockbuster films that seek to capitalize on the productions of major studios.

Asylum’s latest project follows the release of the 2023 comedy horror film “Cocaine Bear.” Directed and produced by Elizabeth Banks, the film follows the murderous rampage of an American black bear after it ingests millions of dollars worth of cocaine. The film has grossed more than $30 million worldwide since its Feb. 24 release.

While over-the-top monster movies have always been Asylum’s bread-and-butter, the success of “Cocaine Bear” may have ushered in a new era of drug-fueled creature features. Sharknado, Asylum’s most successful franchise, reportedly raked in more than $4 billion across six films. Now, they will try to recreate that success with “Attack of the Meth Gator.”

Although fans are already drawing comparisons between “Cocaine Bear” and “Meth Gator,” Asylum says that their movie had already been in the works.

“It’s been in the pipeline for quite a while actually. A lot of people assuming it’s a mockbuster, but this one is an [Asylum Original].”
While Asylum has kept the plot details of “Meth Gator” under wraps, if it is anything like “Cocaine Bear,” it is safe to assume that the plot will follow an alligator that ingests a whole lot of meth and then goes on a rampage eating people.

In the meantime, the production company is doing its best to hype up its new announcement online. In several tweets, Asylum confirmed that the inspiration is “everyday Florida life.”

“This is based on… Florida.”

One fan asked the company why the alligator still had all of its teeth since it supposedly is a “meth” gator.

Asylum joked, “1) We offer a great dental & vision plan to our talent. 2) He’s just at the start of his downward spiral. 3) He balances it out with a milk & broccoli heavy diet. Feel free to accept any of these as explanations…”

“Last day on set of Attack Of The Meth Gator!” The company tweeted on Feb. 25 “Our star will be entering rehab immediately after we wrap. We appreciate all your thoughts & prayers for his full recovery.”
