Florida Isn’t NYC or Chicago-No Happy Meal For Man Given 30 Years for Shooting at Police During McDonald’s Standoff
Florida Man Marlon Aaron Illescas, 43, of Cape Coral, was sentenced to 30 years for the crime of shooting at Fort Myers Police and Lee County Deputies that happened back in 2021.
On Oct. 23, 2021, Lee County Sheriff’s deputies said Marlon Illescas fired shots at Fort Myers Police officers and Lee County Sheriff’s Deputies and fled into the men’s room at a nearby McDonald’s. Once inside, Illescas tried to start a fire in the trash basket using toilet paper and allegedly wanted to burn the business down.

Illescas was first seen holding a gun at the Popeyes restaurant along Palm Beach Boulevard in Fort Myers, and someone called 911.
Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno says that the Fort Myers Police Department and Lee County deputies were at the Popeyes when the suspect pointed a handgun directly at them. Marceno then said deputies used several rounds of less-lethal ammunition in an attempt to disarm Illescas.
“FMPD encountered an armed individual. The individual had a confrontation and wrongfully made a big mistake,” Sheriff Marceno said.
That’s when he ran. “He retreated. He ran into the McDonald’s,” said Marceno.

Restaurant workers were still inside the McDonald’s when Illescas entered, and deputies say he fired several rounds at law enforcement in the process. Then, he barricaded himself inside the bathroom.
“FMPD and the Lee County Sheriff’s Office went in and were able to get all the employees out for safety,” said Sheriff Marceno.
LCSO and FMPD created a tight perimeter and joined forces with other units. Everyone worked quickly. “Our SWAT team deployed the OC gas, and obviously you know he wasn’t going to breathe much longer inside there. He comes out, and we take him to custody without incident,” Marceno said.
When Illescas first appeared in court on Sunday morning, the judge set his bail at $475,000.
Fast forward to February 2023, and Illescas will be spending 30 years in prison for firing at police officers and hiding in a McDonald’s bathroom, according to authorities.
“This scumbag won’t be getting his Happy Meal as he serves 30 years behind bars for his heinous crime,” said Sheriff Carmine Marceno. “No one will put my deputies in danger without being served with the harshest punishments,” said Sheriff Marceno.
