Disney lists its cartoon as a “coming-of-age” story. It is a reboot of a 2001 series of the same name, including a new “socially woke” character named Maya, according to the show’s description. Maya is a 14-year-old anti-racist activist from the town of “Smithville.”
In the latest episode of the series, “Juneteenth,” Maya discovers that the founder of Smithville was a slave owner, and the cast is forced to reckon with Smithville’s racist past. Maya organizes a protest with her friends in front of a statue of the founder, chanting, “Richard A. Smith, his legacy is a myth!”

Armored riot police immediately descended on the protest, threatening the kids with batons and arresting them. At one point, a character is asked to “use his white privilege” to intervene and stop the police from hurting the children. The children continue to chant from inside a jail cell.

Part of the scene went viral on Twitter.

Eventually, the town comes to its senses and topples the statue of the founder. The episode ends with the cast renaming the town “Emilyville” after a slave from the founder’s plantation.

Another episode in the series includes a school talent show, where the kids do a musical routine explaining that “slaves built this country.”

♪ “We, the descendants of slaves in America, have earned reparations for their suffering… And continue to earn reparations every moment we spend submerged in a systemic prejudice, racism and white supremacy that America was founded with and still has not atoned for.” ♪

Another scene follows a teacher explaining to his students that Lincoln did not actually free the slaves. The show pushes the idea that “emancipation” is not freedom and that Lincoln “really didn’t care about freeing any slaves.”

According to The Daily Wire, another scene from the show references the shooting of Michael Brown and repeats the debunked “hands up, don’t shoot” claim.

The show caught the attention of City Journal’s Chris Rufo, who wrote, “This Disney clip is pure critical race theory, including the insane conspiracy theory that Lincoln did not free the slaves.”

“Imagine paying money to Disney to teach your kids to hate themselves and hate their country,” tweeted Human Events senior editor Jack Posobiec in response to the anti-racist talent show.

The original two videos posted online have collectively been viewed over 11 million times.

Florida lawmakers are readying for a Monday special session in Tallahassee to strip Disney of its self-governing powers in the Reedy Creek Improvement District. DeSantis launched the effort against Disney after the corporation condemned the state’s Parental Rights in Education Bill. Disney’s decision to lean into liberal activism has played no small part in the shifting public opinion of the company.
