Free-Speech YouTube Competitor Moves to Florida-‘Mission to…Stand Up to Big Tech Censorship’

The “immune to cancel culture” and Youtube Competitor video-sharing site known as Rumble is opening its first U.S. corporate headquarters in the Sunshine State.

Based in Toronto, Canada, the company announced the grand opening of its U.S. location in Longboat Key, near Sarasota on the state’s Gulf Coast. In a news release, the company said it would invest roughly $50 million in Florida over the next several years and employ 20-25 people in the state to get started.

The site is popular among conservatives. Its leadership has leaned into that appeal, telling the Washington Post that it’s looking for creators who challenge the status quo, including comedian and conservative commentator Steven Crowder, who recently signed with the platform.

Rumble’s mission statement makes its founding principles clear.

“Rumble is a high-growth neutral video platform that is creating the rails and independent infrastructure designed to be immune to cancel culture. Rumble’s mission is to restore the Internet to its roots by making it free and open once again.”

In Rumble’s news release, DeSantis praised the company and expressed happiness at the platform’s decision in 2021.

“We are thrilled to welcome Rumble to Florida, and we support its mission to promote free expression and stand up to Big Tech censorship. Over the past year, we have seen businesses flock to Florida from across the country because, as long as I am governor, our state will be free and built for opportunity. We wish Rumble all the best in their endeavors in Florida, and we look forward to watching their success.”

Rumble CEO Chris Pavlovski agreed with the governor, calling the move a “win-win.”

“Moving to Longboat Key is a win-win for Rumble and the Sarasota community. Sarasota County is growing rapidly, and we are excited to be part of the growth. We plan to fill 20-25 new positions in Florida immediately for our U.S. headquarters, with many more planned for the future. This move positions us to continue providing a platform to content creators without the threats from big tech monopolies. We are excited to invest in Florida in the coming years while we continue to grow Rumble.”

Rumble isn’t the only one who took a liking to Sarasota. Former President Donald Trump’s Trump Media & Technology Group, the parent company of his Twitter competitor  Truth Social, also has a headquarters in the area.

So why the popularity? The 2021 news release explains why Rumble found Sarasota attractive- its growing economy and business-friendly environment.

“Rumble’s discussions with local officials and stakeholders led the company to choose Sarasota County because of the area’s friendly business climate; its proximity to Tampa, one of the fastest-growing tech cities in America; and the potential for further development. The Economic Development Corporation of Sarasota County and Enterprise Florida both played a key role in bringing Rumble to Sarasota.”

The company announced on Tuesday that its new creator studio is open for business. Rumble already operates a similar creator studio in Miami, a service that YouTube generally does not provide to even its top users, closing physical locations down over COVID and opting for online options. The Miami Rumble studio, on the other hand, has seen visits from Donald Trump Jr. and political commentator Dave Rubin.
