St. Pete Man Allegedly Kills His Mom by Beating Her to Death
Jontrell Willie Collins 29, of St. Petersburg, Florida is in the Pinellas County jail after St. Petersburg Police Say he killed his 60 year old mother Harriet Owens by beating her to death.

St. Petersburg Police Officers were dispatched to the home Collins shared with Owens at 5055 third avenue south reference a welfare check. Upon arrival they met with family and friends of his mother 60 year old Harriet Owens. The welfare check was requested by multiple persons as Ms. Owens has not been heard from or seen out in public by anyone for a number of days.
St Petersburg Officers entered the home and once inside, they found Harriet Owens dead body with multiple injuries according to the arrest report. Investigators said that it appeared Jontrell Collins beat his mother using his fists and some type of unknown weapon. There were also defensive wounds found on Harriet Owens body that would indicate that she put up a fight trying to defend herself before succumbing to her injuries.
When St. Petersburg Police Arrived, the found Collins in the home. Collins was taken into custody and transported to St. Petersburg Police Headquarters for questioning. After the interview, he was charged with 2nd degree murder.

Police have not released any details on exactly how Ms. Owens died, or a possible motive for her murder. Portions of the arrest affidavit that included statements Collins made to investigators were redacted in the copy that was released to public.
Collins is no stranger to law enforcement. He has arrests in Pinellas County for possession of cannabis, battery domestic, battery on a person over 65 years of age, and battery on a law enforcement officer.
Collins was transported to the Pinellas County Jail where he is in custody without bond and charged with 2nd Degree Murder.
