Hollywood police responded to the Wärtsilä North America facility at 2900 SW 42nd St. at around 6:45 a.m. Upon arrival, they found the victim Ferdinand “Andy” Williams, dead inside a fuel room, lying face down in a pool of blood with visible head trauma. He was declared dead at the scene.

Police said that while no one witnessed the act, Menocal allegedly admitted to his fellow workers killing his co-worker Ferdinand “Andy” Williams, 40, after an argument. Employees said they saw Menocal walking around the office with a sledgehammer as they finished their morning meeting and then left the building a short while later. He fled the scene before the police arrived.

According to the arrest affidavit, Menocal is accused of “repeatedly striking Williams in the head with a large sledgehammer.”

Broward County deputies were able to locate Menocal outside his Deerfield Beach apartment Wednesday.

Hollywood Police have not revealed a motive but described the killing as “an isolated incident between two people that did know each other and worked together.”

A spokesperson for Wärtsilä, a Finnish company specializing in the marine and energy sectors, said in a statement Wednesday that the company was “very saddened” to learn of the incident stating,

“Our deepest condolences go to the family of the deceased worker.”

Menocal has worked at Wärtsilä North America as a diesel technician since Feb. 2022.
