According to the Leesburg Police department arrest affidavit, Scotti was using the ATM at the Bank of America located at 401 North 14th Street in Leesburg. Bank of America employees were meeting shortly before opening the bank at 9:00 a.m. when they heard loud banging noises and a man screaming outside the bank by the ATM.

When they looked outside, they saw a man, later identified as Del Scotti, who was rocking the ATM back and forth while screaming at the ATM to give him his card back.

Since the rocking and screaming had no results, Scotti went to his white pickup truck and returned with a hammer. He then proceeded to beat the offending ATM into submission. When that did not produce the desired result, Scotti got in his pickup and drove home.

Bank Employees had already called 911, but Leesburg Police arrived shortly after Scotti left.

The bank manager completed a victim statement and stated that the damage to the ATM was estimated at $3,000. The employees also provided the culprit’s identity via photos of his pickup truck. Leesburg Police ran Scotti’s vehicle information through teletype and got his home address.

Leesburg Police arrived at Scotti’s home, and when he opened the door, he immediately said,

“You must be here because of the ATM.”

He went on to tell police that he became furious when he could not get the ATM to return his bank card.
