Florida Man Kevin Justin Mayorga, 32, of Cutler Bay, is in the Dade County Jail after biting the head off his partner’s ball python during a domestic dispute, holding her against her will, and fighting with the responding police officers.

According to a Miami-Dade Police Department arrest affidavit, officers responded to the Saga Bay Gardens apartment complex, located at 8260 SW 210th St., just after 5:20 a.m. after receiving reports of a loud argument and a domestic dispute.
Upon arrival, Miami Dade Officers could hear an argument inside the apartment. Police pounded on the door and ordered the occupants multiple times to open the door. A female voice inside the apartment screamed, “Just kick in the door.”
Since the officers of the Miami Dade Police department are all about delivering top-notch customer service, the officers kicked in the door and made entry. When they entered, they observed the arrestee, later identified as Kevin Justin Mayorga, running behind the door and attempting to push it closed to keep the officers from entering and keep the victim inside against her will.
Officers ordered him to put his hands up, and of course, he refused. They deployed the Taser, which unfortunately had no effect, so they were forced to go hands-on with Mayorga. Officers were able to get one handcuff on, but then Mayorga was able to break free and swing at one of the officers striking one of them near the eye with a handcuff. Folks, as I’ve said before, you don’t want to get hit with a handcuff, especially if it’s open. It can cause a lot of physical trauma.
Officers were finally able to get Mayorga under control and handcuffed. Officers had to place him in leg restraints (a Hobble) because he kept resisting when officers attempted to arrest him, police say.

When the scene was somewhat under control, police then spoke to the female victim to find the reason why they were dispatched to the home in the first place. The woman stated the dispute was over her pet snake, a ball python, to be exact. The officers asked what was going on with her snake.
According to the woman, Mayorga bit the head off her snake with his teeth. The woman pointed out the decapitated snake to the officers near the front door with its head lying nearby.
I don’t remember anyone biting the head of a snake before. Not that it would surprise me. Many of us, older folks, remember rocker Ozzy Osbourne biting the head off a live bat during a concert in Des Moines, Iowa, back in 1982. That got him lots of publicity and some rabies shots.

Mayorga was transported to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where he was charged with domestic violence battery, animal cruelty with intent to kill, false imprisonment, and resisting an officer with violence to his person. He is being held on a $15,000 bond, and a public defender has been appointed.
