Tracy Caruso’s Fun Things to Do Labor Day Weekend
Labor Day weekend is coming up. Some will vacation, but some will be here grilling hot dogs. If you’re in South Florida, the weather forecast is forty percent rain, and you may want some alternative plans. Here’s a wrap-up of some fun things to do.
Chestnut vs. Koayashi-Unfinished Beef
Remember the good old days when Joey Chestnut competed against former champion Takeru Kobayashi? Fans, hold on to your weenie and relish the moment. On Monday, September 2nd, Netflix will air Chestnut vs. Kobayashi-Unfinished Beef Live at 3:00 PM. For the first time in 15 years, the two champions will face off in this dog-eat-dog competition in the ultimate wiener-takes-all.
To recap. There have been many scandals in Major League Eating, and Nathan’s July 4th Hot Dog eating contest will never be the same again. Long-time world champion, elite class hot dog eater Joey Chestnut was banned from the competition when he shamefully signed a contract with Impossible Foods to hock plant-based, lookalike, fake meat hot dogs. Additionally, one of the competitive eaters, Nick Wehry, who is married to women’s champion Miki Sudo, was accused of cheating to get into the elite eating class. This didn’t cut the mustard, and fans were saur over the wurst upset in MLE history with Nathan’s name left with a few crinkles like their delicious fries. Now, fans can enjoy a never-before-seen competition like no other.

Florida Has More Pickleball Courts Than Any Other State
If the weather is great, there’s always beach or pool time; for those who want to be active, there’s no better time to take up a new sport. Pickleball has become extremely popular amongst both young and old, and in Florida, there should be no problem finding a court. A Google search shows that Florida has 1,160 pickleball locations, more than any other state. In Boca Raton alone, there are 24 courts. Sarasota has 24 courts. Jacksonville has 25 courts. Naples has 22 courts. The Villages has 140 courts over 22 locations, which is no surprise given the love of balls people in The Villages seem to have.
True Crime Readers Rejoice-New Book Takes Place in Florida
For those of you whose idea of heaven is digging into a new book, Emerald Lisa Furnari discovered a new true crime book, Guilty Creatures-Sex, God, and Murder in Tallahassee, Florida, by Mikita Brottman. I love reading, and I cannot wait for my copy of this one by a true crime author described by the New York Times book review as;
From the critically acclaimed author dubbed “one of today’s finest practitioners of nonfiction,” a breathless true crime tale of sex, religion, and murder in the deep South.
From Amazon,
Mike and Denise Williams had a tight-knit, seemingly unbreakable bond with childhood friends Brian and Kathy Winchester. The two couples were devout, hardworking Baptists who lived perfect, quintessentially Southern lives. Their friendship seemed ironclad. That is, until December 16, 2000, when Denise’s husband Mike disappeared while duck hunting on Lake Seminole…
I can barely stand it, and I bet it will make for a great book club read.

I feel Like Going Out to The Movies for a Change
M. Night Shyamalan, of The Sixth Sense fame, has a new movie called Trap, starring Josh Hartnett. Unlike most of his others, which usually have a supernatural element, this is more like an extended episode of Criminal Minds. Shyamlan’s real-life daughter, who wrote and sang her original songs in this movie, plays a Lady Gaga-ish pop star who puts on a concert for the sole purpose of helping law enforcement catch a serial killer who is attending said concert. It’s action-packed, edge-of-your-seat entertainment that both men and women will enjoy.
From your friends at Florida Jolt, have a great holiday weekend filled with fun, laughter, and great times.
