Trump Warned Shooter May Have Had Help
Congressman Michael Waltz (R-FL) says it is too soon to rule out the possibility that would-be Trump assassin Thomas Michael Crooks received help planning his attack.
Waltz, a member of the bipartisan U.S. House task force investigating the attack, discussed his suspicions and questioned the trustworthiness of national security agencies in an interview Tuesday. The Florida Congressman appeared on an episode of Newsmax’s ‘Prime News,’ where he discussed the possibility of Crooks being assisted, ultimately concluding, “I don’t think we can rule that out, that he had help.”
Waltz was one of the first members of Congress to raise alarm bells over Crooks’ advanced tactics. Law enforcement officials say that the gunman had previously surveyed the rally site using a drone, before slipping past security and taking position on a rooftop near Trump’s speech. Crooks was reportedly in possession of multiple bombs, a remote detonator, multiple overseas accounts, and a rangefinder he took with him to the rally.
Waltz pointed out to Newsmax that Crooks “was able to recon the site and outfox local cops and the Secret Service.”
“I’m with Josh Hawley (R-MO), Ted Cruz (R-TX) and everybody calling for accountability… Coupled with ongoing Iranian plotting and an FBI alert that one of their recruiters had made it across our border and was recruiting assassins, coupled with overseas accounts we can’t get through the encryption, absolutely, we don’t rule out that he had help, not at all.”

One of Waltz’s primary concerns was that federal law enforcement reportedly denied the Trump campaign additional security multiple times in the weeks leading up to the attack.
“The day after the assassination attempt, I was the first to put out there that agents were reaching out to me and saying they had been repeatedly denied additional resources,” he said.
“We found out that 12 additional agents were sent to Dr. Jill [Biden’s] event, but only three were sent to President Trump.” ~ Rep. Michael Waltz
Waltz also pointed out that during a hearing before the Congressional Oversight Committee, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas initially shot down the allegations “irresponsible and false,” only to “walk that back and say, ‘Oh, wait, we did find where Trump was denied additional resources,’ but we still can’t get answers on exactly what those were.”

“I think the American people have lost trust in a basic, fair investigation from the very agencies that were, at a minimum, trying to put Trump in jail just a few months ago,” Waltz continued. “We can’t take ‘no’ for an answer. I look forward to sitting down with the FBI, DHS, and Secret Service to see exactly what their investigators are seeing.”
Waltz underscored the need for accountability in the country’s national security agencies. Given their history of enforcing two standards of justice, the Congressman said that Americans had rightfully lost faith in the federal government.
“They’re going to have to prove to me that he [Crooks] didn’t have help, given how he pulled this off.”
