Trump Shreds Biden For Calling Supporters ‘Garbage’
Former President Donald Trump tore into President Joe Biden on Tuesday after the commander-in-chief referred to Trump’s supporters as “garbage” during a virtual campaign rally.
“While I am running a campaign of positive solutions to save America, Kamala Harris is running a campaign of hate,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “Now, on top of everything, Joe Biden calls our supporters ‘garbage.’ You can’t lead America if you don’t love the American People. Kamala Harris and Joe Biden have shown they are both unfit to be President of the United States.”
“I am proud to lead the biggest, broadest, and most important political coalition in American history. We are welcoming historic numbers of Latinos, African Americans, Asian Americans, and citizens of every race, religion, color, and creed. It is my desire to be the President of all the people.” ~ Donald Trump
Biden’s comments about Trump voters–of which there were more than 74 million in 2020–have been widely condemned by Republicans. During a call Tuesday, Biden was asked to respond to a joke made by insult comic Tony Hinchcliffe at a Trump rally on Sunday, where Hinchcliffe referred to Puerto Rico as ‘a pile of garbage.’
“The only garbage I see floating out there is [Trump’s] supporters,” Biden replied.

Trump was holding a rally in Allentown, Pennsylvania, when he gave his first reaction to Biden’s comments. Florida Senator Marco Rubio was on stage when he told the audience he had “breaking news” to share.
“Just moments ago, Joe Biden stated that our supporters are garbage,” Rubio said, drawing a reaction from attendees.
Shortly after, the former President returned to the stage.
“Wow. That’s terrible. That’s what it says. That’s what it says,” Trump responded. He compared Biden’s comments to his former opponent Hillary Clinton’s infamous “basket of deplorables” line.
“You have, remember Hillary, she said deplorable, and then she said irredeemable, right? But she said deplorable, and that didn’t work out. Garbage, I think, is worse, right? But he doesn’t know, you have to please forgive him. Please forgive him, for he not knoweth what he said.” ~ Donald Trump

Biden’s remarks also drew condemnation from Democratic Governor of Pennsylvania Josh Shapiro, who told CNN that they were “not words that I would choose.” The Harris campaign has released no comment on the backlash.
The White House, however, began damage control almost immediately. White House spokesperson Andrew Bates released a statement Tuesday falsely claiming that Biden was only referring to the “rhetoric” of Trump’s supporters.
Biden also issued a statement through his account on X,
“Earlier today I referred to the hateful rhetoric about Puerto Rico spewed by Trump’s supporter at his Madison Square Garden rally as garbage—which is the only word I can think of to describe it,” he said. “His demonization of Latinos is unconscionable. That’s all I meant to say. The comments at that rally don’t reflect who we are as a nation.”
“He’s talking about the Border Patrol,” Rubio said Tuesday about Biden’s comments. “He’s talking about nurses; he’s talking about teachers.” He’s talking about everyday Americans who love their country and want to dream big again.”
“And I hope their campaign is about to apologize for what Joe Biden just said. We are not garbage; we are patriots who love America.”
