Trump Campaign Breaks Fundraising Record After Guilty Verdict

Former President Donald Trump’s campaign and the Republican National Committee raised a record-breaking $141 million in May, thanks in part to Trump’s conviction by a Manhattan jury. The total, announced Monday, includes a $53 million boost raised in the first 24 hours following the guilty verdict.

According to the report, one-fourth of last month’s donors were first-time contributors to the campaign.

“We are moved by the outpouring of support for President Donald J. Trump. The American people saw right through Crooked Joe Biden’s rigged trial and sent Biden and Democrats a powerful message,” Trump senior advisor Chris LaCivita said in a statement. “[T]he REAL verdict will come on November 5th,”

The figures are a good sign for the Trump campaign, which struggled to keep pace with President Joe Biden’s fundraising efforts for months. While the Biden camp has not yet released their total for May, it is unlikely they will surpass Trump’s haul. Still, Biden spokesman Ammar Moussa says the campaign is waiting to “see how the numbers actually shake out.”

“One thing’s for certain: Trump’s billionaire friends are propping up the campaign of a white-collar crook,” Moussa said.

For the first time in April, the Trump campaign outperformed Biden and the Democratic National Committee, bringing in $76 million for the month, compared to Biden’s $51 million.

Despite Biden’s attempts to capitalize on the former President’s historic legal troubles in New York, the Democrat-led trial appears to have backfired, resulting in a massive boost to Trump’s campaign efforts.

The $141 million total reflects more than 2 million individual contributions to the Trump campaign, making May the most successful month for the campaign on record. The campaign also boasted in a statement that “organizations supporting President Trump” raised an additional $150 million last month, amounting to nearly $300 million donated towards Trump’s election bid.

Within hours of the jury reading their guilty verdict, Trump’s donation page on Truth Social crashed due to the outpouring of support.

“The American people saw the Biden Trials for what they are — a sham attempt to keep President Trump away from voters and confined in a courtroom,” said RNC Chair Michael Whatley and Co-Chair Lara Trump.”

It didn’t work because voters understand the clear contrast between President Trump’s record of success and Joe Biden’s failures… Unfortunately for Democrats, their rigged political operation has backfired in a historic way, and Republicans are in a stronger position to FIRE Crooked Joe Biden and Make America Great Again by electing President Trump on November 5.”

While the Trump campaign continues to make significant inroads against Biden’s fundraising advantage, polls still indicate that the two presumptive nominees are neck-and-neck.

An IBD/TIPP survey released last week showed the pair in a dead heat, while Morning Consult’s polling found Trump at a slight edge of just one point. The RealClearPolitics average shows Trump ahead by less than one percentage point.
