Trump ‘Absolutely’ Willing to Debate Kamala Harris
Former President Donald Trump says he would “absolutely” be willing to debate Vice President Kamala Harris, who is currently cruising her way to the Democratic Presidential nomination.
“I would be willing to do more than one debate, actually,” Trump said during a call with reporters on Tuesday. “I think if you’re the Democratic nominee or Republican nominee, you really have an obligation to debate.”
The Republican nominee added that while he had not yet reached an agreement with Harris, he intended to return to the debate stage.
“I haven’t agreed to anything. I agreed to debate with Joe Biden,” Trump said. “But I want to debate her, and she’ll be no different because they have the same policies.”
Trump had originally agreed to a second-round debate on Sept. 10 with President Joe Biden, but those plans changed last weekend when the 81-year-old Democrat announced the suspension of his campaign. In a social media post on Sunday, Biden offered his endorsement of Harris.

.@SebGorka: Are you looking forward to debating Kamala Harris?
PRESIDENT TRUMP: Sure. I would like to debate her… Look at her ideas. If she won, she’d go right back to open borders and destroy the country. One little piece of their game is trying to register these people to… pic.twitter.com/2FLZAjwXsB

Since Biden’s announcement, the Trump campaign has shifted its focus to Harris, calling out her record as the nation’s “border czar.”
“On her watch, tens of thousands of Americans have been poisoned with fentanyl, and Americans have been killed, raped, and assaulted by criminal illegal aliens who should not be in the country in the first place,” the campaign said in a statement Tuesday.
“Meanwhile, cartels have de facto control of much of the border, and gangs from South America are expanding their insidious operations in our country. Now, instead of owning up to her failures, she is trying to rewrite history. Pathetic.”
Since entering the Presidential race, Harris has received a slight bump in her approval polls as Democrats rally around their new presumptive nominee. Immigration, however, continues to be a top issue for voters, with 65 percent disapproving of the current administration’s handling of the border, according to Fox News.
In March 2021, Biden tapped Harris to assist in controlling migration from Central America. Since then, more than 7 million illegal immigrants are estimated to have crossed the southern border.
“What’s worse, not only has Harris been a colossal failure as border czar, she would open our borders even further, supporting a set of dangerously liberal policies that undermine our borders and threaten our security. Vote for President Trump to end the border invasion on day one.” ~ Trump Campaign

Trump’s running mate, U.S. Senator J.D. Vance (R-OH), had been originally slated to debate Harris next month. During a rally on Monday, he expressed disappointment at the change in plans.
“I was told I was going to debate Kamala Harris,” Vance told the crowd. “And now President Trump is going to get to debate her? I’m kind of pissed off about that, if I’m being honest with you.”
“Elite Democrats got in a smoke-filled room and decided to throw Joe Biden overboard. That is not how it works. That is the threat to democracy, not the Republican Party,” Vance said.
Harris is expected to formally accept the Democratic nomination on Aug. 22–the final night of the Democratic National Convention. It is currently unclear who she will select as a running mate. However, some names reportedly being considered include North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, and Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear.
