Texas Man Uses Apple AirTag to Track Down Truck Thief – Shoots and Kills Him in Self Defense
Texas Man is under investigation after he used an Apple AirTag to track down his stolen truck and killed the thief.
San Antonio police received a call about a stolen vehicle around 1 p.m. from a home on Braesview near Northwest Military Highway in North San Antonio. The truck owner used the AirTag to track down his stolen truck, but instead of alerting the police, he decided to hunt down the thief himself.

The truck’s owner managed to track it down about 20 miles from where it was initially stolen. Police said the truck owner, whose name had not been released, shot and killed the alleged thief, who was unaware he was being tracked.
The shooting happened Wednesday at a shopping center near Southeast Military Drive and Goliad on San Antonio’s southeast side.
The truck’s owner stated that the thief was inside his truck, and when he and two family members confronted him, the thief pulled a gun. The victim shot into his vehicle, killing the suspect.

Now police are working to determine if the suspect was armed. They also said victims of such crimes should not take the law into their own hands.
“If you are to get your vehicle stolen, please do not take matters into your own hands like this,” SAPD’s Nick Soliz said. “It’s never safe, as you can see by this incident.
Several bullet casings were covered at the scene with evidence markers, and two vehicles in the parking lot had their windows shot out.

Herrera died from a gunshot wound to the head, according to the Bexar County Medical Examiner, KSAT reported. His death is being ruled as a homicide.
Police said they’re working to determine if the shooter will be charged.
