Say No to The Boca Gang of Three on March 14th, Council Members Should Serve Their Time and Get Out
If you live in Boca Raton, you must say no to the March 14th power grab that city council members are attempting to push through, to the tune of 255K taxpayer dollars.
Here’s the nutshell version of what’s happening. Mayor Scott Singer and two council members, Monica Mayotte, and Yvette Drucker, voted to have the Boca city charter amended to change local terms in office from three to four years. No one asked for this, and since there is nothing else on the March 14th ballot to vote on, the city council hopes that most won’t show up to vote.
This move is particularly self-serving because the gang of three will be included in this term extension, adding a possible two more years to their time office. Mayor Singer will be in office for a decade if this goes through.
The question is, why is this happening, and why is this bad for you? The answer is that this is a power grab to ensure cozier relationships with businesses and developers that do not serve most residents.
The cozier relationships ensure more money for those who want to move on to something else politically.
Singer, Drucker and Mayotte voted to spend taxpayer funds to open 28 polls and train 100’s of poll workers for an issue nobody was asking for and that benefits only them. ~BocaFirst
Unless we hear a complete denial, the speculation is that Singer is planning on running for county commission. It’s always better to be a mayor in office when running for something else than to be a former mayor. He needs this term extension, but you don’t.
Singer, Drucker, and Mayotte can try putting as much lipstick on this pig as possible, but this slimy and selfish power grab at the taxpayers’ expense will haunt them for the rest of their political careers.
