John R. Smith: The Need For An Angry President

The Wall Street Journal continues to offer excellent analysis that evaluates the actions and policies of the four years of the Biden-Harris administration.

For one thing, the Journal has made it clear that Kamala Harris was heavily involved in the decisions made by Joe Biden. That was not a heavy lift because Harris herself has made the statement that she was “the last one in the room” when some presidential decisions were made. And when asked on October 8 what she would do differently from the last four years, she said “There is not a thing that comes to mind.”

The Journal notes that Harris presents herself as new but so far as policies are concerned, she “represents more of the same, and not merely of the last four years.” The truth is that her candidacy and her beliefs are a continuation of “the progressive political wave that began in 2006… She is running for what essentially would be Barack Obama’s fourth progressive term.”

As to Harris’ domestic policies, she presents an extension of Bidenomics, by expanding the entitlement state and “accelerating” climate welfare into overdrive, on steroids. Her advisers want her to abolish all fossil fuels. She believes the Administration’s last four years of foreign affairs are a “security success, despite two wars, adversaries on the march, and the U.S. Navy” fighting to defend America’s interests in the Red Sea.

Harris and Biden have not proposed any initiatives to rebuild the strength of our military, even as global threats multiply. That has left us unprepared in the eyes of Xi Jinping and Putin, not to mention the Administration’s appeasements of Iran and the gifting of billions of cash to Iran that our own military needed. It’s time to stop kidding ourselves. As much as we have wanted America’s handling of Middle East events to turn out well under Biden/Harris, as bombs fall and tensions escalate from Afghanistan to Hamas, it borders on complete disaster. Our diplomats faced an unwinnable mission that our President and Vice-President did not think through. What has resulted is a mistake-ridden presidency that stumbles toward a disgraceful close.

The Journal mentions that a Republican Senate “would check some of (Harris’) worst policy instincts,” even as the Sanders/AOC/Warren wing of the Democratic Party would pressure her for a no-holds-barred progressive agenda. The newspaper editorializes that “The worst result would be a Harris victory with a Democratic sweep of Congress. Then it’s Kamala bar the door.” She would restructure the Supreme Court to 15 members from nine, with Harris appointing the new members. Further, her immediate agenda would be to “rig voting rules, augment union power, control more of the private economy, and add D.C. and Puerto Rico as states.”

The real underlying question posed by the Journal staff is whether we are better off with Trump policies or Harris policies. The candidates are far apart on illegal immigration, inflation, government spending, taxes, climate and national security. It’s not difficult to clearly see who is the better choice.

This writer is angry about what Joe Biden has done to this country. I want a new President who is as angry as I am.
