Hundreds, Even Children, Die from Overdoses in ‘Hippie’ Washington Town-Drugs Recriminalized
A Washington Town which prided itself on its “progressive” handling of drug use and addiction has chosen to recriminalize the public use of drugs after the overdose of hundreds and the deaths of dozens, including a five-year-old girl.
Though the five-year-old’s parents were arrested for murder, the recent statewide decriminalization of drugs has led to most addicts being left alone to abuse, regardless if they are in public or in their own homes.
Two teens – a 15 and 17-year-old – were also recently killed by overdoses in the small city.
Predictably, many drugs have plagued the town, though a recent spike in fentanyl usage has pushed first-responder services and tens of thousands of people to the brink.

Edwin Williams, a city councilman of the town called “Bellingham,” expressed his frustration with the crisis wreaking havoc upon his city to the New York Post.
“A man was sitting on the curb in a parking lot with his head bowed, right out in the open … and a police officer told me that he had been dead for at least 12 hours. It shocked me to my core.”
Williams continued, saying, “I have lived here for 30 years, and no, I haven’t seen anything like this. I would characterize our city as one that is trying and willing to bend over backward to help and provide people with programs to address either addiction or homelessness.”
Despite an increase in rehabilitation and “diversion” programs, the state’s decriminalization has predictably not led to any decrease in drug use or any improvement of communities -in fact, quite the opposite has occurred in Bellingham.

Councilman Williams said decriminalization combined with COVID and a fentanyl flood was a “perfect storm.”
In mid-April, the Bellingham city council finally responded with an ordinance to restrict the use of “hard” drugs in public. The move, which made public drug use a misdemeanor, received heavy criticism from the radical-left residents of Washington.
The Washington State Supreme Court has impeded any attempts at saving the state from collapse – even going as far as to strike a law that made simple drug possession a felony.

Washington laws make drug possession a misdemeanor charge only after three previous arrests. The Washington State Senate refused a bill that would have increased penalties.
There is currently no statewide plan to lessen or even halt the marked increase in deaths caused by drugs.

Leftists once saw Washington and the other pacific-coast states as paragons of virtue for their weak handling of drugs, abuse, and homelessness. However, despite the left providing dozens of “programs” and resources to those afflicted by drug addiction, the residents of Bellingham continue to lose friends and family at the hands of destructive radical-left policies.
