Federal Manhunt Ends for Fani Willis’ ‘Loverboy’ Nathan Wade

U.S. Marshals served former Trump prosecutor Nathan Wade with a subpoena on Thursday, ending a weeklong manhunt after he dodged a Congressional summons.

Wade was due to testify before the House Judiciary Committee last Friday as part of a probe into Fulton County DA Fani Willis’s prosecution of former President Donald Trump. When he failed to show up on Sep. 17, the committee issued a subpoena and dispatched the U.S. Marshals Service to find him. After spending six days hiding, he finally called the Marshals on Thursday to end the standoff.

Wade was ousted from his role as a Trump prosecutor in March after it came to light that he had had an ongoing romantic relationship with Willis. By then, Wade had served as a special prosecutor on the Trump Georgia election case for over two years. Willis and Wade would later claim that their relationship had ended in 2023.

In a statement to Newsweek on Wednesday, spokesman for the committee Russell Dye said it was “extremely unusual” to have to issue a subpoena.

“The Judiciary Committee has served over 100 subpoenas this Congress. We have done so, for the most part, without controversy or the need to use the US Marshals,” Dye said. “Nathan Wade’s evasion of service is extremely unusual and will require the Committee to spend US tax dollars to locate him.”

“As a result, the committee had to use the assistance of the U.S. Marshals, who have also not been able to find Nathan Wade,” he added.

According to a letter published by House Judiciary Chair Jim Jordan (R-OH) accompanying the subpoena, Wade was originally due to testify on Sep. 18 after initially agreeing on July 19. Wade then attempted to postpone multiple times starting on Sep. 13, until finally failing to appear.

Jordan revealed that Wade ultimately refused to appear on the advice of one of Willis’s attorneys.

“The eleventh-hour intervention from District Attorney Willis does not excuse your failure to appear for your transcribed interview,” Jordan wrote.

Wade appeared on MSNBC’s ‘Reid Out’ in May with host Joy Reid. During the interview, he attempted to defend his relationship with Willis. “Our relationship was professional. Our relationship grew organically over time,” he said.

Willis appointed Wade as special prosecutor on Nov. 1, 2021. Just a day later, Wade filed for divorce from his wife.

“It was something that was not deliberate or intentional,” he said of their relationship. He also confirmed that he and Willis had “conversations” about whether their relationship was a risk to their case against Trump.

“She and I had conversations about that,” Wade said. “When we felt as though the relationship was going to a place that could potentially become an issue with our work, then we sat and we had a conversation and we did what was necessary to protect the sanctity of the case.”

The Georgia election case against Trump has been on hold since June while the Georgia Court of Appeals is considering whether to disqualify Willis from her position.
