FAU Trustees Name Adam Hasner New President—Liberals Panic
Florida Atlantic University’s (FAU) Board of Trustees has voted 13-0 to elect former Florida House Majority Leader Adam Hasner as its new president, delivering a significant win for conservative leadership in higher education.
The FAU Board of Trustees unanimously voted to appoint Hasner, a Republican, on Monday, citing his deep legislative ties and proven leadership as key factors in their decision. The move comes after a drawn-out, politically charged presidential search stalled over bureaucratic infighting and controversy for nearly two years.
Hasner, who served eight years in the Florida House and was Majority Leader from 2007-2010, is no stranger to leadership. He steps into the role at a critical time when universities across the country are battling political interference, radical leftist ideology, and declining academic standards.
“FAU is at a turning point today, hopefully for greatness,” said FAU Board of Trustees member Jonathan Satter. “The university needs an advocate that can attract the attention of the community of donors, the Legislature, of students, of parents that can keep the dream alive and take the university to new limits.”
Hasner’s conservative credentials and political connections are expected to bring much-needed funding, stability, and focus to FAU—qualities that have been sorely lacking in recent years.
Predictably, FAU’s left-wing activists wasted no time clutching their pearls. Nicholas Ostheimer, a student organizer for the FAU College Democrats, complained that the process was “disingenuous” and whined that selecting a president should be “a selection, not a coronation.”
Translation: They’re upset that their preferred leftist didn’t get the job.

Meanwhile, conservative students are celebrating Hasner’s appointment, believing he will restore fairness and ideological balance on campus. Nick Coyte, president of Turning Point USA at FAU, highlighted the reality that conservative students have long been silenced. In contrast, leftist students have been free to spew their radical rhetoric unchecked.
“I represent a large group of conservative students on campus,” Coyte said. “A lot of us are really concerned about our ability to voice our opinions in class. I personally believe that Adam Hasner is the best candidate to help solve this issue.” ~Nick Coyte
Hasner’s appointment closes the book on a messy, scandal-ridden search that began when former FAU President John Kelly stepped down in late 2022. The initial search process, which started in 2023, was abruptly halted after Florida’s Board of Governors raised concerns over legal violations and political favoritism.
At the center of the controversy? Allegations that FAU deliberately sidelined conservative lawmaker Randy Fine, who had been personally endorsed by Gov. Ron DeSantis. Fine, who had reportedly been assured of the job by the governor’s office, was mysteriously dropped from the running.
After months of legal wrangling and political maneuvering, the Board of Trustees restarted the search, and Hasner emerged as the clear choice.
Despite the leftist backlash, Hasner has made it clear that his presidency will be focused on results, not politics.
“Our mission is about providing opportunities so that these students who are attending our university have the opportunity to improve their lives and improve their families’ lives,” Hasner told the board. ~Adam Hasner
With years of experience in the Florida legislature and a proven record of conservative leadership, Hasner is exactly what FAU needs to turn the page on its past dysfunction and restore integrity to the institution.
Bottom Line: FAU Just Got a Much-Needed Upgrade
Hasner’s appointment is a big win for Florida, for FAU, and for every student who values fairness, academic excellence, and leadership that actually works.
Of course, left-wing activists and campus radicals will continue to scream about “academic freedom” while doing everything in their power to suppress conservative viewpoints. But this time, they’ll have to deal with a president who won’t be bullied.
Stay tuned—this fight for common sense in higher education is just starting.
