Biden Braces For Fundraising Crisis as Donors Abandon Campaign

The Biden campaign’s freefall entered its third week on Thursday, with new reports circulating that fundraising efforts have stalled. Following a disastrous debate performance by the 81-year-old commander-in-chief, key donors to the Biden campaign have reportedly begun to walk away from the re-election effort. With the election just four months away, the development is expected to strain the campaign’s once-dominant fundraising efforts, clearing the way for opponent Donald Trump to take the lead.

According to a report published by MSNBC this week, Biden’s fundraising efforts are facing new obstacles due to his debate performance. Fewer and fewer donors are responding to calls. The report stated that many of the campaign’s bundlers have ceased their fundraising efforts amid uncertainty that Biden will even receive the Democratic nomination at next month’s convention.

One fundraiser who spoke under the condition of anonymity told the outlet that “No one is picking up the phone” anymore in response to donation requests. Many former supporters of the President have expressed outrage at his mental decline being covered up by the media for so long.

“I’m not going to raise any more money or write out checks until I am sure he is the candidate and the campaign finds a date,” Biden fundraiser John Morgan told MSNBC. “These next few weeks will be key. But my donors need to be sure he is the nominee,”

Another blow came to the campaign on Wednesday when top fundraiser and Hollywood ally George Clooney penned an op-ed in the New York Times calling for Biden to drop out of the race. “In the last four years, he’s won many of the battles he’s faced,” Clooney wrote.

“But the one battle he cannot win is the fight against time. None of us can. It’s devastating to say it, but the Joe Biden I was with three weeks ago at the fund-raiser was not the Joe ‘big F-ing deal’ Biden of 2010. He wasn’t even the Joe Biden of 2020. He was the same man we all witnessed at the debate.”

Clooney’s statement comes just three weeks after he attended a fundraiser for Biden before the June debate.

A White House spokesman later responded to Clooney’s remarks, and CNN reporter Kayla Tausche relayed the comments live on air.

“A campaign official who attended that Los Angeles fundraiser tells me that George Clooney left three hours before the President. So clearly, the gloves are off,” Tausche told host Jake Tapper.

“But what does that mean, that George Clooney left three … what’s the point?” Tapper asked, confused.

“The point of that is to suggest that Biden’s stamina is better than Clooney’s, and Clooney didn’t have eyes on the entire event. That’s the response to the Clooney op-ed,” Tausche said.

“Ok,” Tapper replied unamused.

Biden is expected to hold a press conference Thursday in an unlikely bid to repair some of the damage done at last month’s debate. He has argued that his performance was simply a one-off lousy night and will seek to shore up his support amid declining poll numbers. White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre has repeatedly referred to the anticipated appearance as a “big boy press conference.”
