A House Judiciary Committee hearing turned chaotic on Monday after a heckler interrupted proceedings and called Adam Schiff a “scumbag.” Schiff had been presenting the open remarks to a hearing on violent crime in New York City and was criticizing Republican lawmakers for their treatment of Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg when the audience member interjected. The hearing was held at the Jacob Javits Federal Building just one block away from Bragg’s office.
“Here in Manhattan, the scales of justice are weighed down by politics,” Committee Chair Jim Jordan said during his opening remarks. The field hearing lasted four hours and focused heavily on the progressive criminal justice policy of Soros-backed prosecutor Alvin Bragg. “For the district attorney justice isn’t blind. It’s about advancing opportunities to promote a political agenda– a radical political agenda,” Jordan said.
The Judiciary Committee arranged the hearing following the indictment of former president Donald Trump by a Manhattan grand jury last month in what was widely described by Republicans as a partisan “witch hunt” by Bragg’s office. Democrats like Adam Schiff, however, described the hearing as a “political stunt.”

“The GOP Leadership in Congress doing what is done best for the last six years and that is to act as the criminal defense counsel for Donald J. Trump.”

Schiff’s comments sparked immediate furor from one of the audience members, who blurted out that the California Democrat was a “scumbag,” among other things.
“You’re the only one talking about Donald Trump! We’re testifying about our families dying… You’re a scumbag!”
The uproar was cut short, however, after Jordan directed to the Capitol police to escort the man from the room.
“Please remove the gentleman from the audience… Now you got to go. You got to go. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’ve given you several warnings. You got to go, unfortunately.”

Among the witnesses scheduled to testify were Democrat City Councilman Robert Holdman of and victim’s rights activist Madeline Brame. Bodega owner Jose Alba also presented testimony, after he was charged last year by Bragg’s office for stabbing an attacker in self-defense.
“After I simply told a woman that she could not have potato chips, because her payment was declined, I was face to face with her boyfriend, who seemed ready to kill me. He attacked me violently, threw me around the store, the woman stabbed me herself. I truly believed they were there to kill me… I stabbed that man in self-defense. But when the police came, even though I was injured myself, I was placed under arrest. I was taken to jail. When I came before the judge, the prosecutor said I was being charged with Murder in the Second Degree.
The next time an innocent man does nothing but protect their own life in self-defense from a violent attack, they should not be made the
villain, but instead, treated with care and compassion as the victim,” Alba said.
