Steve Bannon Rips ‘Gutless’ GOP Leaders For Backing Off Bud Light Boycott

Former Trump White House advisor Steve Bannon blasted Republicans’ “gutless” reversal on the Bud Light boycott this week after the National Republican Congressional Committee quietly canceled their campaign against the brand. The boycott has successfully cost parent company Anheuser-Busch $6 billion in market capitalization. Still, recent reports naming the beer conglomerate as an NRCC donor have prompted many Republicans to withdraw their support.

“Republicans are sad, weak,” Bannon wrote on his GETTR page.

Conservatives, until recently, had led a united front against Anheuser-Busch since the company’s partnership with transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney earlier this month. Bud Light’s short-lived attempt to rebrand as a woke ‘non-fratty.’ beer company created a severe backlash from its consumers, leading the brand’s sales to plummet.

In response to a Women’s History Month tweet from Anheuser-Busch, Bannon accused the company of “jamming transgender ideology down America’s throat” and called on consumers to “STOP BUYING ALL PRODUCTS FROM AB.”

The NRCC offered their support of the boycott as well, tweeting out Saturday morning,

“Thanks to Dylan Mulvaney, we can all finally admit that Bud Light tastes like water.”

The tweet was accompanied by a WinRed fundraising page, where the committee offered beer koozies bearing the caption “This Beer Identifies as a Water.”

“Woke companies making you feel like drinking? Then this limited-edition koozie is perfect for you! Just chip in $10 to CLAIM YOUR LIMITED-EDITION KOOZIE!”

But shortly after it was posted, the NRCC deleted the tweet. Hours later, the fundraising page came down as well. That same day, The Daily Beast revealed that the NRCC had received nearly $500,000 in donations from Anheuser-Busch during the 2022 election cycle.

“Gutless Republicans back down,” Bannon wrote in response to the news. “Don’t Back Down. No More Bud.”

On Monday, Bannon also assailed the company after it attempted to smooth over relations with its consumers by releasing a pro-American ad spot featuring its Clydesdale mascot. “This is a story bigger than beer,” a narrator for the ad says. “This is the story of the American spirit.” Bannon wasn’t buying it.

Amid pushback against the Bud Light brand, Coors Beer stock value has reportedly increased by as much as nine percent.
