WATCH: Kamala Calls Herself ‘President’ During Eulogy

Vice President Kamala Harris made a slip while delivering a eulogy for late Democrat Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee on Thursday, accidentally referring to herself as the “President” of the United States.

Jackson Lee’s memorial service — which at times teetered on a campaign event — included remarks from Harris about their joint effort to make Juneteenth a federal holiday. Jackson Lee was the author of the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act.

“Which as a U.S. Senator, I was proud to co-sponsor and then as President–” Harris said, touting her role in the legislation.

“As Vice President it was my honor – with the President! With the President!” she said as cheers erupted from the funeral attendees.

“It was my honor… it was my honor, with our president Joe Biden to stand beside Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee as our President signed her bill into law.”

Harris jumped into the Presidential race in late July, taking over for Joe Biden as the Democrats’ presumptive nominee. The switch was made after weeks of pressure from both Republicans and Democrats following the June presidential debate, where critics questioned the 81-year-old Biden’s ability to continue serving as Commander-in-Chief.

Further reports indicated that Biden’s advanced age had limited his ‘active’ window to just six hours a day, raising questions about who was actively running the White House. During multiple events, Biden also referred to Harris as “President,” including at a July 11 press conference.

The Vice President has received an approval polling bump since taking the top spot on the ticket, but critics say that honeymoon period won’t last forever. If Harris is formally nominated by the DNC this month, she will have been selected without winning a single primary vote in both the 2024 and 2020 elections.

Since entering the Presidential race nearly two weeks ago, Harris also has not held a single press conference, despite holding several rally events. Harris also received criticism this week after appearing to take on a fake southern drawl in a speech to Atlanta voters.

Former President Donald Trump currently maintains a slight lead over Harris in national polling, with RealClearPolitics giving him an edge of just 1.2 points. A late July poll by Rasmussen of more than 2,000 voters found Trump leading by 5 points.

Trump had originally been scheduled to face off against Biden for a televised debate on Sep. 10. Both Trump and Harris have expressed interest in a debate, but no details have yet been confirmed.
