Trump Mocks Chris Christie’s Weight in NH: ‘Don’t Call Him a Fat Pig’
Former President Donald Trump took a jab at Chris Christie, one of his competitors for the GOP Presidential nomination, over his eating habits and large size during a campaign stump on Tuesday. Trump was presenting a speech to a crowd of supporters in New Hampshire when he decided to go off script and hammer the former New Jersey governor over his fledgling campaign.
“Christie, he’s eating right now. He can’t be bothered,” Trump said, drawing laughter from the crowd. However, one audience member took things a step further, calling out to the former President and referring to Christie as a “fat pig.” Trump feigned disapproval, repeating the audience member’s remark twice more.
“Sir, please do not call him a fat pig,” Trump responded, “That’s very disrespectful. Don’t call him. See, I’m, I’m trying to be nice. Don’t call him a fat pig. You can’t do it … because you’re not allowed to do that, and therefore we’re not gonna do it, OK?”
Trump added, “We want to be very civil, right?” before grinning on stage.

After the video of the exchange was published, Trump’s supporters continued to have some fun, editing some photos of the New Jersey Republican in a series of posts on Twitter.
“Don’t mess with Christie when he’s got food to eat. He’ll bite your head off, man,” said one post showing him leaning over a family at a Cubs game–a bowl of nachos in hand.
Other commenters called him “Chrizzo” or “White Lizzo” compared him to the ‘plus-sized’ rapper.

Christie later responded to the insults, tweeting, “If you had the guts, you would show up to the debate and say it to my face.”
Spokesman Steven Cheung later commented to Newsweek, saying, “Hahaha! Chris Christie needs to think before he speaks.”
Later Tuesday, Trump continued to savage Christie, referencing his earlier exchange in a Truth Social post.
“I was extremely respectful of Sloppy Chris Christie today in New Hampshire,” Trump recalled.
“During a speech in front of a large crowd of Patriots, somebody shouted out that ‘Chris Christie is a fat pig.’ Rather than acknowledging that, which many speakers would have done, I said, ‘No, No, he is not a fat pig.’ I’m sure Chris would have been very happy with my defense of him!” ~ Donald Trump via Truth Social
Omg Trump is funny as hell.
And what’s even funnier is Christie posts this and tries to score some brownie points by prending to be tough .
Christie – you never will look tough. Just stop at brownie ….. https://t.co/PER2H1Gdtv— PatriotUSA (@PatriotUsa47) August 9, 2023
Trump has repeatedly hit Christie for his weight during the campaign trail. In June, Trump posted on Truth Social about his opponent’s campaign launch,
“How many times did Chris Christie use the word SMALL? Does he have a psychological problem with SIZE?”
In September, Trump posted a photo of a large man at a buffet table, with the caption “Chris Christie at a Roy Rogers at 11 PM in the evening trying to console himself.”
Christie later responded to the quips during an interview with Fox News, telling Howard Kurtz, “Oh, like he’s some Adonis?” in reference to the Greek god of beauty.
Both Trump and Christie have qualified for the first Republican Primary debate on August 23. Christie has confirmed he will attend, but Trump has hinted that he may skip the event, citing his lead in the primary polls.
