Trump Camp Accuses Kamala of ‘Rewriting History’ as Border Czar

Kamala Harris’ Presidential campaign is less than four days old, but it is already entangled in controversy over her performance as the nation’s “border czar.” With nearly 10 million illegal aliens having crossed the border since 2021, Harris and her media allies appear keen to distance her from the immigration policy of her own administration.

On Wednesday, the Trump campaign directly called out those efforts, accusing the Harris campaign of trying to downplay her role in the crisis.

“Her neglect and incompetence opened the floodgates to nearly 10 million unvetted illegals and an explosion of migrant crime,” the campaign said in a statement. “Including the brutal murders of Rachel Morin, Laken Riley, and countless other women who have suffered directly from the Harris-Biden open border bloodbath.”

Several left-leaning news outlets this week have attempted to run cover for Harris, publishing articles rejecting the use of the “border czar” moniker. Axios and NBC News, among others, have argued that the title was invented by Republicans to mock the Vice President. This criticism is new, however, as many of those same outlets previously used the moniker in their own reporting.

“Kamala’s campaign is scrambling to rewrite history on her failures as Border Czar, but we have the receipts. Border Czar Harris owns the bloodbath at the southern border, including the rape, murder, and brutal assault of women like Rachel Morin and Laken Riley. Try as they might, Kamala and her allies can’t change reality: she is responsible for the flood of migrant crime and deadly fentanyl into our country, and Americans will hold her accountable when they vote for President Trump in November.” ~ Trump Campaign Senior Advisor Danielle Alvarez

Since Harris was first tapped in March 2021 to deal with the surge at the southern border, media frequently referred to her as the Biden administration’s border czar, with Axios, New York Post, and Washington Examiner using the term in their reporting. Others, including the Washington Post, Politico, The Hill, NBC, and the Huffington Post wrote that she had been chosen to “lead” the administration’s efforts on immigration.

Now, those outlets are backtracking.

“The Trump campaign and Republicans have tagged Harris repeatedly with the ‘border czar’ title — which she never actually had,” Axios reporter Stef Kight wrote Wednesday.

Just three years ago, Kight wrote in a different piece that Harris had been “appointed by Biden as border czar.” That article was titled “Biden puts Harris in charge of border crisis.”

An editor’s note has since been issued by the publication stating that Kight’s 2021 report had “incorrectly” used the phrase.

Since Harris entered the 2024 Presidential race this week, former President Donald Trump and his campaign have focused their criticism on her performance at the border. Immigration remains a top issue for voters going into the election, with 65 percent disapproving of the administration’s handling according to a recent FOX News poll.

Nationwide, the fledgling Harris campaign is already trailing behind Trump. A Forbes poll of nearly 3,000 voters last weekend found Trump leading at 53 percent support versus 47 percent for Harris.
