Tracy Caruso Wants You To Know These Things

Truth is stranger than fiction in Florida and places like Thailand, for that matter. In this week’s column, you’ll read about a new up-and-coming South Florida city, a former first lady’s naked choices, bugs you may already be eating, MAGA fashion, and so much more. Here’s the latest.

Greenacres Could Be the Next Palm Beach County “It” City

Cue music. Greenacres is the place to be…Well, not quite, but central Palm Beach County’s largest city wants a new image, according to the Palm Beach Post. Greenacres want to “be a destination to go to, and not one people drive through on their way to Wellington or West Palm Beach.” Greenacres will host public meetings to hear ideas from residents, one of whom will be former Mayor Joel Flores, who is currently running for County Commission and wants to take a city that is already good and make it great. Flores told Fl Jolt that he started discussing plans for the city with consultants five years ago. The pandemic put plans on hold, but now he’s ready to rock and roll and meet with officials to discuss what the city will look like moving forward. He’s the one who coined the phrase the post used about it becoming a destination.

We’re looking forward to exciting new restaurants and activities in a city loved by those who live there and soon to be loved by the rest of us. But for those of us who go there already, like the people involved with the Hispanic Vote of PBC, Sabor Latino, a great restaurant in Greenacres now, is muy caliente.

Former First Lady and Former Nude Model Melania Trump Is Talking

Former First Lady Melania Trump is spilling tea in her new memoir, which is coming out soon. The former model, now 54, took to Instagram to defend nude modeling work she had done back in the day, which seems like a genius way to get the word out about what’s sure to be an exciting and fun read.

We’re Already Eating Bugs

According to the NY Post, we eat bugs and don’t even know it. Some examples of foods that contain the cochineal parasite, used for its vibrant red color: Starbucks’s raspberry swirl cake, birthday pop, mini donut, and red whoopee pie, Kellogg’s Fruit Loops cereal and fruit snacks, Betty Crocker’s red velvet cake mix, Skittles, and Danon yogurt strawberry, blueberry, and raspberry flavors. It takes 40,000 of the little buggers to make a pound of the dye.

Team No One for Teamsters

For the first time in 30 years, the Teamsters have decided not to endorse former President Donald Trump or Vice President Kamala Harris for president. According to the NY Post, an electronics poll found Trump leading Harris 59.6% to 34% among members. A phone poll had Trump at 58% and Harris at 31%. But here’s what’s interesting: before President Biden withdrew, Biden led 44.3% of the way to Trump’s 36.3%.

Florida Real Estate a Steal

Many complain that Florida is becoming too expensive to live in, but when you consider the real estate prices in New York, you’ll thank your lucky stars. There’s a listing for a lovely penthouse apartment with a private pool overlooking Central Park. It has three bedrooms and 3.5 baths and is listed for a whopping 40 million dollars!

Best-Selling Author Passes But Backlist Titles Destined to Be Classics

Bestselling author Nelson DeMille has died at 81. He was known for his suspenseful action novels, such as Plum Island, The Charm School, and The General’s Daughter, which was adapted into a 1999 movie starring John Travolta. His books will leave a lasting legacy, sure to carry on with book clubs everywhere.

MAGA Fashion Is Hot

The DailyBeast has reported that the hot new fashion trend walking runways in New York, London, Milan, Paris, and, er, Ronkonkoma, Long Island, where a recent fashion show took place, is MAGA fashion in the form of balls gowns, jackets, and hats. Keep an eye out for the fashions during season in Palm Beach.

10K for Florida Snake Hunter

Hunters removed nearly 200 invasive Burmese pythons from the Florida Everglades during a 10-day hunt in August 2024. According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission, Ronald Kiger, who removed 20 pythons, was the 10K prize winner.

Junk Food Linked to Diabetes

Who knew that crappy food wasn’t good for you? I think everyone already knew that junk food was linked to diabetes, yet the NY Post recently felt the need to reiterate it in an article that must have gotten in on a really slow news day.

Golden Bachelorette is a Huge Hit

The first Golden Bachelor TV show with the always crying seemed like he was in it for the money; Gerry (pretentiously pronounced Gary) Turner was a massive hit for the Bachelor Nation franchise. 72-year-old Turner married financial planner and fellow 70-something-year-old Teresa Nist, but the marriage ended two months later. Now, the first-ever Golden Bachelorette is airing with a decade-younger cast that’s a whole lot classier. The beautiful Joan Vassos is a 61-year-old school administrator and widow looking for her second chance at love. Viewers have already picked their favorite men for her, and seniors everywhere see how great love can look for a second or third act.

The Force Wasn’t With this Kid

According to the New York Post, a Star Wars-loving family was denied a passport for their son with the unusual name Loki Skywalker Mowbray. Disney owns the name Skywalker. The family was told to change the child’s name or get permission from Disney. Little Loki Skywalker was eventually issued the passport, and their vacation was saved.

Again, With Snakes in Thailand

I don’t know what’s with Thailand and the snakes, but first, there was the guy whose balls got bitten by a snake when he was sitting on the John, and now some lady got wrapped up in a 16-foot snake while doing dishes. According to the NY Post, first responders found the woman looking pale as a ghost with the snake still wrapped around her. I think we all know this story’s moral is don’t do dishes. You don’t have to tell me twice.

Once bitten, twice shy in Thailand, but remember to look before you leap, friends; Florida still has loads of snakes and gators.
