Political Shocker-Sam Stern Raises $1.1 Million, Gains Surprise Endorsements

Sam Stern, the Republican candidate for state attorney in Palm Beach County, has just pulled off the unimaginable-he’s raised $1.1 million in thirty days, while his Democrat opponent, Alexcia Cox, has raised only about a hundred thousand. Additionally, Stern has pulled off another eyebrow-raising coup, an endorsement from the two Democrats that ran against Cox in the primary. In the last lap of this election, Stern seems to be steamrolling over Cox for a potential victory.

If Stern wins, it will shock the many in this county who think this is a slam dunk for candidate Cox, who many see as this county’s Kamala Harris. However, a win for newcomer Republican Sam Stern would be legendary. If Cox wins, it would be a historic moment, fulfilling the Democrats’ DEI dream of having this county’s first female and Black state attorney.

Cox has been viewed as the frontrunner for this county-wide seat. One of the reasons is that many see Palm Beach County, which has been traditionally blue for many years, as a place that is un-winnable for a Republican for a county-wide seat. Still, Stern is saying, not so fast, Alexcia Cox; I’ve got a million more dollars to play with and your current boss’s endorsement. Cox has raised under a hundred thousand since the primary, which seems odd given that polling for her campaign shows her ahead.

Dem Gregg Lerman, who ran against Cox in the Primary, said this in his endorsement;

There are times when partisanship must be set aside, and the position of state attorney is clearly one of those times…For the good of the citizens of Palm Beach County, I endorse Sam Stern and look forward to standing amongst your supporters at your swearing-in ceremony.

A million additional dollars will go a long way to getting out the vote for Stern, and one of those messages, sure to make it to TV, is that Stern has been endorsed by two unlikely people, Craig Williams and Gregg Lerman, the two Democrats who ran against Cox in the primary. On top of that, Williams has worked in the state attorney’s office for the last twenty-seven years, and he happens to be Cox’s boss. That money could also get out a message that will resonate with voters, such as the mishandling of the Jeffrey Epstein case. To add insult to injury, Stern has also been endorsed by the progressive liberal Sun Sentinel, a newspaper that’s become so left that many Republicans won’t even read it.

Based on the Sun Sentinel’s endorsement, they seem to believe that the state attorney’s office needs a shakeup and that Cox would be more of the same. They feel that Stern will prosecute corruption more aggressively. My interpretation of this is that they think Cox, who has been working in this office for her entire legal career, is a bureaucrat whose claim to fame seems to revolve around settling cases rather than prosecuting them. However, as Stern says, pleading down cases to misdemeanors doesn’t mean success.

The jaw-dropping statement from the Sun Sentinel;

We strongly recommend Republican candidate Sam Stern. The office needs new direction that it is less likely to get under the Democratic nominee, Alexcia Cox…Voters should shake things up.

The third candidate in this race, No Party Affiliation (NPA) Adam Farkas, a defense lawyer, has much to say about how this office is run. His message is important and shocking, which Florida Jolt will be getting out, but his problem is that this is a partisan election. Many people will vote according to party affiliation.

Craig Williams, Cox’s boss and her opponent in the primary, had this to say in his  Sam Stern endorsement;

While I am a Democrat, I put public safety before party politics. I have given 27 years of service to the State Attorney’s office of Palm Beach County, culminating as one of its three Chief Assistants. I know the powers and duties of the office. I know that no office is more important to the safety and the quality of life of our community. I also know well the professional qualifications of all the candidates, having served with all three. On November 5th, I will vote for Sam Stern.

Palm Beach County has been a blue county for decades, but that all changed in 2022 when two completely unknown Republicans won county commission seats against two Democrats who seemed to have all of the support and endorsements. Despite the historic wins, two years later, many still don’t think it’s possible for a Republican to win the State Attorney race, and sleeper candidate Adam Farkas may also have a few tricks up his sleeve. This county may be in for a major surprise. Palm Beach County, take notice. This race is far from over.
