Middle School Hosts ‘Disgusting’ Licking Game Between Students, Staff

A Washington middle school is under fire from parents after it had students participate in a disturbing “licking game” with staff members. Video of the bizarre pep rally competition surfaced this week, simultaneously showing the preteen schoolkids and adult faculty licking marshmallow cream off opposite sides of a plexiglass panel. Multiple students reportedly recorded the “game” to show their parents and can be heard in the footage exclaiming, “That’s so gross” and “disgusting.”

Desert Hills Middle School allegedly proposed the game as part of a fundraiser before the students planned to leave for Spring break. Two plexiglass panels were affixed in the center of the school gymnasium, with four streaks of marshmallow cream smeared on each side. Teams of students and faculty could then be seen running to their respective sides of the plexiglass, taking turns licking off the cream.

“Who thought this was a good idea?” one of the students can be heard shouting uncomfortably.

According to the Daily Mail, footage of the disturbing pep rally was soon uploaded online, sparking an immediate backlash from parents on social media. One of the parents, Sandie Salisbury, reportedly wrote,

“This room full of adults did nothing to stop this from happening. My child came home from school on the last day before spring break and said that they had a really weird assembly that day. He shared briefly – but I had no idea and could never even imagine how incredibly inappropriate this really was. HOW HOW HOW did this happen.”

Salisbury added that school activities at Desert Hills require multiple levels of permission before being approved, adding that the game should have been prevented or, at the very least, stopped “in the moment.”

“I’m more than disappointed with this,” she continued.

Several parents of the students have claimed that the school’s principal, Casey Gant, could be seen recording the “licking game” on his personal phone. One mother told KTTH in an interview,

“What got me even more upset was when I saw the principal laughing and then pulling his phone out to videotape or take pictures of the event. He seemed to have thoroughly enjoyed the game, instead of protecting our children and stopping the game.”

In response to the backlash, Superintendent Traci Pierce sent a statement to parents calling the video “highly concerning.”

“This activity does not reflect the high standards we hold for our staff members as outlined in district policy. The content of a video being shared on social media is highly concerning, and the situation is currently being investigated by the district.”

However, in a follow-up email, Pierce appeared to defend the pep rally game and Principal Gant, saying that it was “clear that the intent of the activity was innocent and not ill-intended.”

“There is zero evidence to suggest or support that this was in any way ‘grooming’ activity on the part of organizers or participants.”

“Again, I apologize that this incident occurred and for the negativity brought to the Desert Hills community,” Pierce wrote.
