Vice President Kamala Harris’ husband, Doug Emhoff, is facing allegations that he assaulted his ex-girlfriend, according to a new report.
The assault occurred in 2012, according to three friends of the woman, who was described as a successful New York attorney. Emhoff is alleged to have struck the unnamed woman so hard that she spun around while waiting in a valet line at the Cannes Film Festival in France. Emhoff reportedly thought that his then-girlfriend was flirting with the valet.
The three friends recounted the story to the Daily Mail and reportedly provided photo evidence of Emhoff with the woman to corroborate the story. Emhoff allegedly had “a lot to drink” leading up to the alleged assault.
“[She] went up to one of the valet guys, offered him 100 Euros or whatever, to get to the head of the line. She told me she put her hand on his shoulder. Doug apparently thought that she was flirting and came over and slapped her in the face,” one of the friends recounted. The woman reportedly slapped Emhoff back before retreating to a cab and breaking up with him later that night.

Another one of the friends, described as a “top New York businessman,” claimed that he received a call from the woman crying inside the cab shortly after the alleged assault before Emhoff forced his way in.
“She said she wanted to go back to the hotel without him. But while she shut the door, he forced himself into the car, which she did not want.”
“I think she asked him ‘what the f*** was that all about?’ in the car, and the only thing she could really get out of him was that he thought she was hitting on the valet. [She] told me she was so embarrassed. She couldn’t believe he is the person that he is, and that it turned into this trailer trash moment.
It woke her up about the self-delusion she was having, explaining away the teacher story. She realized he was bad news. This was the first time she saw his ugly side.”
The friends reportedly requested anonymity for fear of retaliation from Emhoff. Neither the Second Gentleman nor his ex-girlfriend replied to the Mail’s requests for comment. The sources also provided emails and an itinerary corroborating details of the couple’s travels.
The report follows just two months after Emhoff admitted to having cheated on his first wife and impregnating their child’s nanny.
“During my first marriage, Kerstin and I went through some tough times on account of my actions. I took responsibility, and in the years since we worked through things as a family and have come out stronger on the other side,” Emhoff told CNN in August.

The report also comes just days after MSNBC host and former White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki gushed over Emhoff’s role in his wife’s campaign, telling him that he had “reshaped the perception of masculinity” and was a “wife guy.”
“It’s the right thing to do,” Emhoff replied. “Women should not be less than.”
