It’s Fall-Tracy Caruso Tells All

It’s Fall, y’all. Fall is a unique time of year, even though South Florida doesn’t have beautiful changing color leaves. It’s still a great time to curl up and get cozy while streaming some good mysteries or scary movies for Spooky Season. Florida is a sunny place for shady people, so lots is always happening. So pour some pumpkin-spiced coffee and prepare for sugar and a little spice. Florida Jolt has suggestions for what to watch, health tips to help you reboot for Fall, and all the latest spicy gossip.

Legacy Regime Media Endorses, Gasp, Two Republicans

We know that many of you won’t go near the Sun Sentinel because, let’s face it, it’s liberal, it’s woke, and it hasn’t been kind to Republicans. The result is that some candidates won’t even respond to them anymore. Hold on to your venti; no foam, mint mocha, extra sugar-iced Frappuccino. The woke, liberal, holier than though, sanctimonious Sun Sentinel endorsed two Republicans for countywide seats in Palm Beach County.

One candidate is Mike Gauger for Sheriff, and the other is Sam Stern for State Attorney. Do I think it’s good that they’re endorsing Republicans? Sure. Am I suspicious about the reasons for doing so? Absolutely. Will they do the same for any state seats? So far, no. Incumbent House Rep Peggy Gossett-Seidman (R-Boca) got snubbed, even though the Sentinel pointed out that she voted against the 6-week abortion bill, and she changed her gun vote from yes on changing the legal age from 21 to 18 to no. Some would say her votes are the Sentinel’s liberal wet dream, so one can only wonder why they still thought endorsing her opponent was the way to go.

Ciao Illegals

According to FOX News, while America is trying to decide whether or not it’s racist to enforce actual laws, Italy won’t bite. Italy’s conservative prime minister feels there’s no room for debate. If you enter the country illegally, you’ll get kicked out. My husband is right. Italians do do it better.

Who Says Palm Beach County Is Too Expensive

Boynton Beach condo community Hunters Run has decided to take away promised equity for homeowners, which for some would be $34,800, according to the Palm Beach Post. The board argued that it needed millions to pay for capital improvements. For homeowners seeking to get back part of their equity, they must now sell by November 1st. The result is a mad rush by homeowners to sell their units. Some are selling for as low as $5,000 for a two-bedroom apartment.

Delray Beach Nonprofit Awarded Bigly

Congratulations to Ted Hoskinson, founder of the nonprofit literacy advocacy group Roots and Wings, which is focused on improving literacy rates for children in Palm Beach County. The Carl Angus DeSantis Foundation has awarded Ted’s nonprofit $40,000. Ted is a well-known and loved community advocate in Delray Beach, and this is an incredible nonprofit to donate to and get involved with.

What’s a Weekend?

Dame Maggie Smith, one of the finest actors of her time, has passed away at 89. She’s known for her memorable and funny role as the Dowager Countess in Downton Abbey and beloved roles in films such as Harry Potter. The world will miss Smith’s dry British and hysterically amusing humor. Fall is an excellent time to rewatch Downton.

Charming Cozy Mystery Perfect To Stream for Fall

Meet your next binge-watch. If you want to feel charmed and uplifted, stream the excellent “Whodunit” show, Elsbeth. Elsbeth is a crime drama starring Carrie Preston as the quirky, lovable, multiple-tote bag-carrying Elsbeth Tascioni, a former defense lawyer who now works with NYPD solving crimes. This show is part Only Murders in the Building, Murder She Wrote, and Columbo, wrapped up into one—the show’s first season aired in 2023. Elsbeth was a fan-favorite recurring character on the shows The Good Wife and The Good Fight. Now we can curl up on the sofa and enjoy this fabulous show, which is now in its second season.

Eat Early, Lose Weight

According to Mayo Clinic dietician Tara Schmidt, people who eat later at night have a higher rate of obesity. One quick way to shed some unwanted pounds is to eat your evening meal within a two-hour window. The optimal time is the “early bird” approach, meaning eat between 5 PM and 7 PM. This would mean the end of my social life for someone like me, but the choice appears to be being thin or having friends. I’m not sure which is more important.

You May Be a “Junk Sleeper”

Experts are now saying that if you fall asleep the moment your head hits the pillow, the quality of your sleep is poor, and you’re not getting enough rest; you’re getting “junk sleep,” according to Dave Rabin, a neuroscientist, and psychiatrist, as reported to HuffPost. The National Sleep Foundation says that, ideally, it should take 15 to 30 minutes for a healthy person to fall asleep.

Best practices for sleep hygiene include stopping caffeine intake 12 hours before bedtime, avoiding late meals and alcohol, getting sunlight in the morning, and keeping your bedroom as dark and cool as possible. It sounds to me like the goal of the sleep foundation is to suck every bit of joy out of our lives, but maybe a bit of morning sunlight while guzzling down coffee isn’t so bad.

Out With Rolex, In With Trump Watch

According to the DailyBeast, Trump announced on Truth Social the launch of his “truly special” Trump timepieces, which retail for up to $100,000. Customers can choose between two watch models: the “Trump Victory Tourbillon” and the “Fight Fight Fight.”

I prefer a gift from Cartier, but a Trump watch could be the answer to what to get your spouse for Christmas instead of another MAGA hat. Only in Florida, friends.
