‘Hack’ Moderators Cause Uproar After Trump-Kamala Debate

ABC News’ credibility suffered Tuesday after debate moderators David Muir and Linsey Davis ‘fact-checked’ former President Donald Trump five times on air while failing to correct Vice President Kamala Harris even once.

The network has faced immediate backlash from conservative viewers, who characterized the debate as a three-on-one between Trump and opponents Harris, Muir, and Davis.

“Weird how the hack moderators …are only “Fact-checking” Trump and allowing Kamala to lie nonstop. The Fake News is the enemy of the people,” wrote Donald Trump Jr. on X.

“This debate is three vs one — the ABC moderators clearly shilling for Kamala Harris,” former Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard said. Gabbard had reportedly assisted Trump with his debate prep.

“The ABC moderators are fact checking- incorrectly!- and in such a shockingly obviously one-sided way, that Trump enduring the ambush as well as he has is a win,” conservative radio commentator Buck Sexton posted. “This debate has been a total sham, questions are all attacks on Trump, it’s 3 on 1. Outrageous.”

Over the course of the nearly two-hour debate, Muir and Davis ‘fact-checked’ Trump five times on topics ranging from illegal immigration to the 2020 election. In multiple instances, Trump pushed back against the moderators.

During a segment on abortion, Trump described himself as the “most pro-life President” in history and attacked the policy of Virginia to allow abortion in the third trimester.

“The reason why I’m doing that vote is because… they have abortion in the ninth month. They even have, and you can look at the governor of [Viriginia], the previous governor… not the current governor, whose doing an excellent job, but the governor before, he said, ‘The baby will be born, and we will decide what to do with the baby,’ in other words we’ll execute the baby.”

“There is no state in this country where it is legal to kill a baby after it’s born,” Davis responded.

Reports show that some babies are born alive following failed abortions and are sometimes left to die by physicians. In 2023, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz rolled back protections that previously required doctors to keep track of born-alive babies.

Meanwhile, the moderators failed to ‘fact check’ Harris even once for her numerous false statements.

During the debate, Harris pushed the false claim that Trump called neo-Nazis “very fine people” following the 2017 Charlottesville “Unite the Right” rally. In reality, Trump had called for the extremists to be “condemned totally.” Snopes rated the claim as a hoax earlier this year.

The moderators additionally failed to press Harris on her repeated support for mandatory gun buybacks and did not correct her for falsely linking Trump to Project 2025.

“David Muir is criticizing and attacking Trump more than Kamala is,” journalist Glenn Greenwald wrote on X. “Kamala can relax because the ABC ‘moderators’ are handling the debate for her.”
