Gold Star Families Rip Biden on Afghan Withdrawal – ‘Look at Our Pain’
RNC attendees were brought to tears Wednesday when the convention was addressed by family members of the 13 troops killed in the 2021 Kabul attack. Nearly three years after the Biden administration’s chaotic Afghanistan withdrawal, the gold star families commemorated their loved ones with heartfelt stories and directed their grief at the sitting President.
The 20-minute event included an emotional video of the fallen service members. One of the family members read aloud each of the 13 names, which the audience chanted back. Attendees booed when an image of Joe Biden appeared in the video.
“Look at our faces. Look at our pain and our heartbreak. And look at our rage,” said Cheryl Juels, the aunt of Marine Sgt. Nicole Gee. “Joe Biden owes the men and women who served in Afghanistan a debt of gratitude and an apology.”
Audience members wept as the family members spoke. Christy Shamblin, Sgt. Gee’s mother-in-law said Biden had failed to honor their loved ones’ sacrifice. Instead, they spoke in support of former President Donald Trump.
“While Joe Biden has refused to recognize their sacrifice, Donald Trump spent six hours at Bedminster with us,” Shamblin told the crowd. “He allowed us to remember our heroes. Donald Trump knew all of our children’s’ names, and he spoke to us in a way that made us feel understood,”
At one point during the event, the arena erupted with chants of “Never forget!” and “U.S.A.!”

Biden was criticized for his remarks during the June Presidential debate when he falsely claimed that no service members had died during his presidency. Sixteen U.S. service members have been killed under his administration– thirteen in Kabul and another three in Jordan just five months ago.
“When he was president, they were still killing people in Afghanistan,” Biden said, referring to Trump just across the debate stage. “And he didn’t do anything about that.”
“When he was president, we were finding ourselves in a position where you had a notion that we were this safe country,” Biden said. “The truth is, I’m the only president this century, this decade, that doesn’t have any troops dying anywhere in the world like he did.”
Biden’s disrespect of the fallen service members surfaced again at the RNC convention.

“Biden delivered what President Trump rightly called ‘the most embarrassing day in American history,'” said Congressman Brian Mast (R-FL) in his address to the convention. Mast, an Afghanistan War veteran himself, lost both of his legs in the line of duty.
“And what’s worse is that Joe Biden doesn’t even remember that it cost the lives of 13 American heroes … when their coffins arrived in Dover, he did remember to check his watch didn’t he,” said Mast. “Joe Biden disgraces their sacrifice and all Afghanistan veterans. American veterans and service members deserve better,”
Since the debate, Biden has also drawn criticism from some of his former supporters over the botched withdrawal. According to the Associated Press, Former New Hampshire House Speaker Steve Shurtleff has cited the withdrawal in his calls for Biden to drop out of the 2024 Presidential race.
