Florida County Commissioner Apologizes for Using Jewish Slur
Sanat Rosa County Commissioner Sam Parker has now apologized for using a Jewish slur as he entered a Milton, Florida, gun store. The incident was caught on a store security camera.
One of his employees notified Gun Store owner Chris Smith of the incident, and he played the video at the commission’s Monday meeting that showed Commissioner Sam Parker say,
“We’ve got to Jew you down a little bit” as he entered the store.

The video showed Parker continuing and saying, “What happened to my discount?” “I guess if we would have brought cash, you wouldn’t have had to charge me tax.”
At the Commission Meeting, Parker went on to defend himself, stating,
“The fact that I walk in and say, Hey, I’m gonna have to Jew you down, is not an ethnic slur.” “That has nothing to do…I’m not referring…Okay, I’m not referring to the Jewish community, okay. I use that term as an adjective, as a descriptive word of bargaining them down.”
Several people were upset and called for Parker to resign. Parker said he wouldn’t apologize at that meeting because he did nothing wrong.

He said Thursday he has since learned it was a derogatory statement.
“At the time that I made the statement, I had absolutely no intention of saying anything offensive or derogatory towards any group of people or any individuals,” Parker said. “I’m sorry for the pain or suffering that my statement caused anyone, and I hope you’ll accept my sincere apology.”
Parker also apologized to the county attorney, Thomas Dannheisser, who is Jewish. While Dannheisser said he was not offended, he doesn’t think anyone should use that phrase.

The American Jewish Committee calls the phrase an “insulting, antisemitic misrepresentation of Jewish behavior that plays into the trope of Jews as greedy money handlers who are unwilling to part with their earnings. The common, mainstream use of antisemitic terms, like Jew down, plays a dangerous role in normalizing antisemitism and reinforcing conspiracy theories in the minds of antisemites.”
