‘Drag Mom’ who Mentored Child Drag Queens, Gets One Year for 11 Felony Child Sex Crimes

5A ‘drag mom’ and former elementary school teacher, who has mentored 11-year-old child drag queens, has been sentenced to less than one year in jail after pleading guilty to committing 11 felony sex crimes.

Kelsey Meta Boren, a 31-year-old woman, pleaded guilty to 11 counts of encouraging child sexual abuse in the first degree last month. Until she was accused of these crimes, she worked as a teacher for the Fern Ridge School District, Oregon, before she was suspended.

However, even before the allegations of crimes, Boren regularly posted several images of herself with an 11-year-old girl on her Instagram, openly claiming to be her ‘drag mom,’  according to the Daily Mail.

Recently, Boren was sentenced to 330 days in jail at Lane County Circuit Court, just 30 days for each charge.
One count of using a child in a display of sexually explicit conduct was even dismissed by the court.

Boren was initially arrested in August 2022 after officers carried out a search warrant at her home in Veneta. Court documents show that the authorities found evidence she had been uploading and exchanging child pornography on the internet on multiple occasions, all while employed as an elementary school teacher.

However, even two months after her arrest on October 2022, a drag queen event Boren organized went on, sparking heavy backlash from conservatives.

The event was held at Old Nick’s Pub, which is named after Satan and has adult fetish nights. In the context of Boren’s crimes and of the event itself, protestors of the event faced off with organizers there—the clash involved at least 200 people, with individuals on both sides armed.

The event still went ahead regardless, but the child performer slated to appear, whose stage name is Vanellope MacPherson DuPont, did not take to the stage. Boren was one of the child’s ‘drag moms.’

One Facebook post for the event marketed the participation of ‘Vanellope’ and his age, specifically.

“Vanellope is here to show you what a 11 year old drag queen can do. With all the charm and sweetness of a bowl of sugary cereal, Vanellope is here to brighten up your morning with all her drag talent.”

According to reporter Andy Ngo, ‘Vanellope’ was even paid by adults for performances through online apps.

Footage of the event shows the heated conflict, which included the two crowds throwing things at each other. Those supporting the event shouted “Go home, nazis” at their opponents and held signs that read “Protect trans youth.”

Protestors of even held signs as well. One read, “What kind of monster exposes kids to this?” Another said, “The corruption of innocence is never acceptable.”

The venue, Old Nick’s Pub, has claimed that the opposition to the drag event involving children presents a “targeted agenda” to “push forward anti-LGBTQ legislation,” according to the Daily Mail.

It has also blamed those concerned about the appropriateness of the event for sexualizing it, claiming that”Drag is an art form. The idea that it is inherently sexual is a form of bigotry.”
