Officially, the White House has declined to comment on predictions surrounding Biden’s re-election campaign.
“What I will say is that any announcement or anything related to 2024 certainly will not come from here,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said Thursday, referencing rules prohibiting government agencies from campaign activity.
One insider told CNN it is “no longer helpful or necessary not just to say the obvious: He’s running.” Other similar reports have made their way to multiple other outlets as well.
Even Biden himself has all but announced his re-election campaign.
“I’ve already made that calculus. We’ll announce it relatively soon,” Biden said as he departed Ireland. Where he had traveled, for some reason, to conclude a campaign-style rally, one of the largest of his career.
“The trip here just reinforced my sense of optimism about what can be done,” the president told reporters, “I told you my plan is to run again.”
On the heels of these statements, the Washington Post recently reported, “The National Democratic Party has said it will support Biden’s re-election, and it has no plans to sponsor primary debates.”
Biden is facing two challengers: Marianne Williamson, who ran in the Democratic primary in 2020, and Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the son of former senator Robert F. Kennedy (D-N.Y.) and inheritor of the famed Kennedy political name.
A recent USA TODAY/Suffolk University poll has RFK nabbing 14% of Democratic voters from Biden, a significant portion to pull out from under an incumbent president. RFK has also set himself apart from the crowd by heavily criticizing the COVID-19 lockdowns.
Meanwhile, Marianne Williamson took 5% of Democrat voters who had previously voted for Biden, with another 13% undecided.

The two challengers are not expected to give Biden any serious competition in the primaries, which is even less likely given the now-canceled debates. Part of the reason for their cancellation may not have been to protect Biden from getting primaried but to prevent live criticisms of the incumbent president coming from sources democrats may sympathize with, unlike shots from Biden’s Republican opposition, which may not resonate with some voters simply due to their source.
This danger has now been largely eliminated. The DNC has officially closed ranks around Biden as their nominee, and they’re not planning on anything, let alone pesky public debate, put bumps in the road.
