DeSantis Shreds ‘Menace’ Alvin Bragg for Trump Indictment
Gov. Ron DeSantis visited New York over the weekend–his second trip to the Empire State this year–and tore into Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg for the politically-charged prosecution of Donald Trump. The Florida governor spoke at the Cradle of Aviation Museum on Long Island and weighed in on the state of the country, inching closer to a 2024 campaign announcement.
“This guy is all about politics,” DeSantis told the crowd. “He comes in; his whole thing is he doesn’t want people to be in jail. He wants to downgrade felonies to misdemeanors. Really, really dangerous stuff.” During his speech, the Florida governor at one point referred to Bragg as a “menace to society.”

Bragg has frequently been criticized for his progressive, soft-on-crime approach to law and order. Prosecutors in his office are often instructed not to seek jail time for violent offenses, including armed robberies. More than half of his office’s felony cases have been downgraded to misdemeanors.
“And then what does he do? He turns around, does a flimsy indictment against a former President of the United States based on a bunch of things that they’re saying business records, which, first of all, even if that’s true, that’s a misdemeanor… And they’re trying to do all these legal gymnastics to try to act like it’s a felony when almost every other time he’s trying to take the felonies and downgrade them to misdemeanors, this guy is politics. He has an agenda that is not the rule of law.”
Previously, DeSantis pledged that Florida would “not assist” in any extradition requests made regarding Donald Trump, a Florida resident.
The weaponization of the legal system to advance a political agenda turns the rule of law on its head. It is un-American. The Soros-backed Manhattan District Attorney has consistently bent the law to downgrade felonies and to excuse criminal misconduct. Yet, now he is stretching the law to target a political opponent. Florida will not assist in an extradition request given the questionable circumstances at issue with this Soros-backed Manhattan prosecutor and his political agenda.
Notably, DeSantis did not refer to Trump by name, signaling the breakdown in the relationship between the two former allies.

On Sunday, however, Trump indicated on Truth Social that he would travel to New York and turn himself in anyways,
“I will be leaving Mar-a-Lago on Monday at 12 noon, heading to Trump Tower in New York. On Tuesday morning I will be going to, believe it or not, the Courthouse. America was not supposed to be this way!”

“The Corrupt D.A. has no case,” Trump wrote in another Truth Social post-Sunday evening,
“What he does have is a venue where it is IMPOSSIBLE for me to get a Fair Trial (it must be changed!), and a Trump Hating Judge, hand selected by the Soros backed D.A. (he must be changed!). Also has the DOJ working in the D.A.’s Office – Unprecedented!”
