Dems Laugh Off 2nd Trump Assassination Attempt – ‘Evil, Sick People’
The nation is once again reeling after a second attempt was made on former President Donald Trump’s life just two months after he was shot in the ear during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. On Sunday, the Trump Campaign reported that Trump was safe “following gunshots in his vicinity” — later revealed to have been Secret Service agents firing on a would-be assassin.
But while many lawmakers are calling for an investigation into the disturbing attack, some high-profile Democrats are taking the opportunity to mock and belittle the former President.
U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) wrote on X that she was “relieved” that Trump was safe amid reports of gunfire before taking a swipe at him in a now-deleted post.
“I, along with all patriotic Americans, condemn all acts of political violence no matter the political positions of those targeted. There not good people on both sides of political violence.”
Duckworth’s remark was a reference to the often-repeated “very fine people” hoax following the 2017 ‘Unite the Right’ Charlottesville rally. The claim that Trump called white supremacists “very fine people” was later debunked by Snopes. Duckworth later re-posted her comments without the “both sides” jab.
Rachel Vindman, the wife of former impeachment witness Alexander Vindman, also made light of the latest assassination attempt by joking, “No ears were harmed. Carry on with your Sunday afternoon.” Her post has since received over 35,000 likes on X.
In response to a flurry of posts condemning her comments, Vindman replied, “Sorry you’re triggered… I mean, no, I’m not. I don’t care a little bit.”

Others who attacked Trump in the wake of the second attempt include U.S. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), who issued a statement attacking “Extreme MAGA Republicans” before telling voters, “We must stop them.”
NBC host Lester Holt similarly criticized the former President, telling viewers that Trump’s comments on Haitian illegal immigrants were to blame for the attempt on his life.
“I’m starting to think ‘extreme MAGA Republicans’ don’t exist, and the real extremists are you guys,” journalist Collin Rugg wrote on X.
“THE LEFT WANTS HIM GONE!!!” commentator Gunther Eagleman posted. “This is what happens when the media dehumanizes Trump.”

Just five days before the shooting, Democratic Presidential nominee Kamala Harris appeared on the debate stage to paint Trump as a “threat to Democracy.”
“He wants to be a dictator on day one,” Harris told voters. “Donald Trump left us the worst attack on our democracy since the Civil War.”
Would-be Trump assassin Ryan Wesley Routh was taken into custody by the Secret Service after attempting to flee Sunday. Screenshots of his now-deleted X account show he had been radicalized by calls to stop Trump in the name of democracy.
“DEMOCRACY is on the ballot and we cannot lose,” said one such post from Routh made on April 22. “We cannot afford to fail. The world is counting on us to show the way.”
