[Wild Video] Two Utah Homes Slide Off Cliff Into Canyon
Two spacious Utah homes are now sitting at the bottom of a canyon after a shift in the earth led them to slide off their foundations and collapse down the hillside. Dramatic video of the event captured the moment the entire second story of one of the homes pulled away from the structure entirely before fading into the night. Authorities say that the homeowners had been forced to evacuate months earlier after the cliffside homes were deemed “unfit for human habitation.” No injuries were reported.
“We kept hoping it wasn’t going to end up like this,” homeowner Carole Kamradt told KLS-TV.
“I visualized a lot of our lives in this home and they were all wonderful and beautiful… And looking at this now, it’s a nightmare.”

Kamradt’s two-story home had reportedly been crumbling for months due to “earth shifting that resulted in sliding and breaks in the homes’ foundations,” according to Draper, Utah, city officials.
“With the snow pack melting and creating changes in conditions, other homes in the neighborhood will be evaluated for safety concerns,” officials said in a Facebook post. “At this time, only the two adjacent homes are being evacuated.”
The city was forced to close two public trails as a result of the homes collapsing.

The builder, Edge Homes, has faced criticism for what has been described as a major construction error, with residents blaming the company for not doing their due diligence when constructing the cliffside homes. According to KLS-TV, the company was forced to buy back the homes last January, leaving them empty until their collapse.
“From the outset of the concern with these two homes, Edge has remained fully committed to fairly compensating the homeowners for the inconvenience and disruption they have experienced,” the company said in a statement, according to the outlet.
“We stand by our products and take care of our buyers, even when problems arise from circumstances outside of our control.”

Kamradt says they officially moved out of their home last October, a decision that devastated her family and forced them to rebuild,
“A lot of grief and remorse of the things lost. And [I] hope now that it’s over we can move forward and find another dream.”

Firefighters could be seen stationed outside of one of the homes in the recorded video. The home’s second story reportedly collapses onto Ann’s Trail below, roughly 20 miles away from Salt Lake City. “The house across the street just fell down the hill” said the caption of one video.
Since the collapse, city officials have determined that an additional two homes will need to be evacuated, with more collapses possible in the future due to the unstable ground.
