[Video] Biden Interior Secretary Reamed Over Claims There Are ‘Too Many Jobs’

Biden Interior Secretary Deb Haaland and Senator Josh Hawley, R-Mo. clashed on Tuesday afternoon during a Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee Hearing where Haaland was attacked for saying there are ‘too many jobs’ in the United States.

The two got into a spat over the Department of the Interior’s decision to ban mining on over 200,000 acres of land in Minnesota, which would have provided roughly 1,000 jobs, according to the developer.

Hawley said that the Biden administration’s energy policies have made the United States ‘more dependent on China.’

“Your decision to trade off our energy security in favor of a radical climate change agenda is making us more and more dependent on China. And, at the same time, you are blocking permits for mines in this country,” He said.

“The jobs for blue-collar workers in this nation are valuable resources. The livelihood and well-being of American families are valuable resources,” the Senator continued. “The ability of America to have our own industry and not be dependent on China is a valuable resource. Why should those things for millions of Americans be sacrificed in favor of your agenda for radical climate change?”

Haaland responded by noting that there is an abundance of job openings across the country.

“Senator, I know that there’s like 1.9 jobs for every American in the country right now. So, I know there’s a lot of jobs,” Haaland told Hawley.

“Wait a minute. … You’re telling me we’ve got too many jobs in the country?” Hawley asked.

Haaland responded that there are ‘not enough people’ to fill current vacancies.

“Well, I’m saying that we don’t have enough people,” the interior secretary responded. “That’s why we are having a hard time finding folks to work at our department.”

Hawley once again expressed shock at Haaland’s statement.

“They are blue-collar workers. And you’re sitting here and telling me that we have too many jobs in this country. Are you serious?”  Hawley asked.

Haaland was promptly rebuked on social media after her exchange with Hawley.

Hawley summed up the debate by saying that the Biden administration seems apathetic toward American workers.

“I want to take the strongest possible exception to that comment and that entire mentality which I think is very honest. I think it reflects the mentality of your administration, which is, when it comes to blue-collar workers in this country, ‘You’re on your own. Good luck.’

Hawley concluded by saying that Haaland’s argument might be “the most unbelievable statement I have heard from a member of this administration.”

While Labor Department statistics indicate that America is facing a worker shortage, many Americans cited low pay as a reason for not returning to work, according to a Chamber of Commerce survey.

Some people noted that low-paying service jobs are replacing many high-paying blue-collar jobs in response to Haaland’s argument.
