‘Two Tiered Justice System’ America Reacts to Hunter Biden’s ‘Sweetheart Plea Deal’

Republicans and critics of the Biden Department of Justice decried a ‘two-tiered’ justice system on Tuesday as it was revealed that Hunter Biden, the scandal-ridden son of President Joe Biden, pled guilty to two tax misdemeanors and reportedly made a deal with prosecutors regarding a felony gun charge.

Prosecutors will recommend that Hunter is given probation for the two tax charges and will go through pretrial diversion for the felony gun charge.

“Hunter will take responsibility for two instances of misdemeanor failure to file tax payments when due pursuant to a plea agreement,” Hunter Biden’s attorney Christopher Clark said. “I know Hunter believes it is important to take responsibility for these mistakes he made during a period of turmoil and addiction in his life. He looks forward to continuing his recovery and moving forward.”

Republicans quickly pointed out the double standard between how Hunter Biden’s trial and sentencing were handled and the slew of criminal charges against former President Donald Trump that carry a 100-year prison sentence if he is found guilty on all counts.

Trump, facing federal charges in Florida over a dispute concerning documents stored at his Mar-a-Lago estate and charges in New York over business records, said that Hunter received “a mere traffic ticket” and called the light sentence “election interference.”

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, R-Ky. called the recommended sentence a “slap on the wrist” and said it is indicative of a “two-tiered system of justice” in a separate statement.

“Hunter Biden is getting away with a slap on the wrist when growing evidence uncovered by the House Oversight Committee reveals the Bidens engaged in a pattern of corruption, influence peddling, and possibly bribery,” Comer said. “These charges against Hunter Biden and sweetheart plea deal have no impact on the Oversight Committee’s investigation. We will not rest until the full extent of President Biden’s involvement in the family’s schemes are revealed.”

After one Twitter user remarked that prominent rapper ‘Kodak Black’ was sentenced to three years in jail for weapons charges similar to Hunter Biden’s, Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga. speculated that Hunter is being given lenient treatment because he is the president’s son and is white.

Representative Byron Donalds, R-Fl., had similar thoughts, sarcastically remarking that the same “party that preaches about white privilege does a great job of practicing it” before comparing Hunter’s sentence for tax crimes to black celebrities who received jail time.

Tucker Carlson, who has been using Twitter as his primary medium to communicate with his audience, said, “As in most of the developing world, it’s safer to be the president’s son than his opponent.”

Even some Democrats, such as Gene Rossi, a former Department of Justice Official who prosecuted tax cases, said that Hunter got a ‘sweetheart deal’ before stating that defendants’ should be treated neither better nor worse than those many Great Americans, who work hard & play by the rules.’

For his part, President Biden said that he was ‘very proud of his son’ when asked about Hunter’s guilty plea on Tuesday.

When asked by reporters, White House staff had very little to say on the matter.

“The President and First Lady love their son and support him as he continues to rebuild his life,” Ian Sams, a White House spokesperson, said. “We will have no further comment.”
