Sen. Sinema Roasts Dems as ‘Ridiculous… Old Dudes Eating Jell-O’
According to a new report, ex-Democrat Sen. Kyrsten Sinema showed no love for her left-wing colleagues at a recent Washington, D.C. reception. The Arizona lawmaker shared with a Republican crowd that she no longer attends Senate Democrats’ “dumb luncheons,” where she says “old dudes are eating Jell-O” and “talking about how great they are.”
Sinema, frequently described as an unapologetic moderate, officially left the party in December 2022 after years of heated contention with her colleagues. Sinema became the third Independent senator in the chamber but has continued to caucus with the Democrats as a crucial swing vote.

The Arizona senator reportedly expects challenges from both the right and left in 2024 and has been courting donations from Republicans. According to Politico’s recent report, Sinema frequently bashes her former party in front of Republicans.
“Those lunches were ridiculous,” she said at a donor event earlier this year, earning riotous laughter from the audience.
“I’m not caucusing with the Democrats; I’m formally aligned with the Democrats for committee purposes,” Sinema told the small crowd. “But apart from that, I am not a part of the caucus.”
“Old dudes are eating Jell-O, everyone is talking about how great they are. I don’t really need to be there for that. That’s an hour and a half twice a week that I can get back.”

Sinema continued her bit for a while, sharing that “the Northerners and the Westerners put cool whip on their Jell-O, and the Southerners put cottage cheese.”
“Those dumb lunches,” she remarked.
Sinema then publicly derided her former colleagues at the event, specifically naming former White House Chief of Staff Ron Klain. According to Sinema, Klain had once tasked her with ensuring the attendance of all 50 Democrat senators to ensure an Arizona judge would be confirmed in the divided Senate. Sinema scoffed and recounted how she flipped Klain the bird over the phone before giving the audience a demonstration.
“I spend my days doing productive work, which is why I’ve been able to lead every bipartisan vote that’s happened the last two years,” Sinema told the audience.

According to the same Politico report, Sinema attacked Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer at a different “Republican-filled fundraiser” this year. In response to an audience member’s question about working with Schumer to find a compromise over energy permitting, Sinema reportedly responded, “Oh, good luck.”
She also targeted fellow swing voter Joe Manchin (D-WV) on his tax policy. “People often assume that we’re the same person” she remarked before adding that she has “better tax policy ideas.”
When asked by Politico, one Democrat lawmaker said about Sinema, “she’s the biggest egomaniac in the Senate.”
The Independent Senator has still found some success courting support within the Republican party. According to the same report, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell has signaled his intention to bring Sinema to the Republican caucus, strengthening his party’s position. Utah Senator Mitt Romney has also offered his support of Sinema, “one of the senators that is able to pull people together and actually get legislation passed.”
