Scott Jennings: In History of Sex, No One’s Had as Much Paperwork as Donald Trump

Even Trump critics agree: the Manhattan district attorney’s investigation is a total farce.

Kentucky Republican and CNN political commentator Scott Jennings joined Anderson Cooper on Wednesday to discuss the potential indictment of former president Donald Trump. While Jennings towed the usual CNN line and accused Trump of “leaning into victimization,” he saved most of his criticism for Soros-backed district attorney Alvin Bragg.

“What do you think this means for the former president?” Cooper asked Jennings. “Is it something he should embrace and lean into?”

“I’m just gonna level with you guys,” Jennings replied. “Most Republicans, even the people that don’t want to vote for him again, think that in the history of sex, no one’s ever had to do as much paperwork about it as Donald Trump.”

Bragg is considering charges against the former president over a $130,000 hush money payment made by his former lawyer, Michael Cohen, to porn star Stormy Daniels in 2016. Trump has been accused of having an affair with Daniels in 2006 but has adamantly denied the accusation.

A 2018 letter from Cohen’s attorney leaked by the Daily Mail on Wednesday contradicts the recent testimony. While Trump has been accused of appropriating campaign funds to cover the payment, the newly released letter indicated that Cohen had covered the payment with his personal funds and was not reimbursed by Trump or his campaign.

Under mounting pressure from lawmakers to drop his politically-charged investigation, Bragg is reportedly still scrambling for new witnesses.

During the CNN panel, Jennings criticized Bragg’s conduct as a district attorney, agreeing that the investigation showed a blatant double standard.

“The idea that you would be charged as a crime for it seven years later is just– and by a D.A. by the way, who has downgraded a bunch of violent people while they’re upgrading some seven-year-old sex-paperwork case.”

Bragg was first elected to the Manhattan D.A.’s office in 2021 with the assistance of the racial justice group Color of Change PAC. That same year, the group received a $1 million donation from liberal billionaire George Soros. Bragg’s tendency to avoid seeking jail time for violent offenders, and his record of downgrading more than half of his office’s felony cases to misdemeanors, have earned him a reputation as one of America’s most far-left prosecutors.

When asked whether Bragg’s investigation might strengthen the Trump campaign, Jennings gave an emphatic yes and said that the campaign had already received a sizable increase in donations.

“Yeah, he’s going to lean into it,” Jennings said. “Republicans are obviously responding to it. They’re raising money.”

Since news first broke of a potential indictment over the weekend, Trump has been laser-focused on hammering Bragg, targeting the D.A. on his Truth Social account. On Thursday morning, he accused Bragg of doing the work of the Devil.

“The District Attorney’s Office under Alvin Bragg is allowing Violent Crime to flourish in New York City, like never before,” Trump wrote.

“He is doing the work of Anarchists and the Devil, who want our Country to fail. The ‘Horseface’ agenda is dead, even by the most Radical Left Haters, but he doesn’t care, he wants to go with it anyway.”
