‘Quit Covering For These Guys!’ Lindsey Graham Savages Media Over Abortion Push
South Carolina Republican Lindsey Graham joined CNN on Sunday for a debate surrounding late-term abortion and slapped down an attempted ‘gotcha’ from liberal host Dana Bash in epic fashion. During the interview, Bash inserted a video of former vice president Mike Pence openly disagreeing with the Trump campaign’s position that abortion is a state issue. He asked Graham whether he aligned more with Trump or Pence. The Palmetto State senator made clear that he opposed late-term abortions and savaged the liberal media for always “covering” for Democrats on abortion.
“At 15 weeks, you have a developed heart and lungs. And to dismember a child at 15 weeks is a painful experience; it’s barbaric, it’s out of line with the rest of the civilized world. Only North Korea and China allow abortion-on-demand up to the moment of birth, except the Democratic Party,” Graham said during the CNN talk show State of the Union.
“What the Democratic Party proposes on abortion is barbaric. Abortion up to the moment of birth, taxpayer-funded, I think is barbaric. I welcome this debate. I think the Republican Party will be in good standing to oppose late-term abortion like most of the civilized world.”

Graham received criticism last year after unveiling legislation to ban abortions federally after 15 weeks, which many believe helped motivate Democrat voters in the 2022 midterms. Graham maintained his support for a federal ban, saying he welcomed debate over late-term abortions.
“Just for the record, Roe went up to viability. But I just want to button this up–” Bash interjected.
“No! No! No! Quit covering for these guys!” Graham shot back.
“No, no, no! You’re media, you keep covering for these guys! They introduced legislation that allowed abortion on demand with taxpayer-funded [abortion] up to the moment of birth. That was their position in Washington! That’s the law they want to pass, and nobody in your business will talk about it!”
Bash attempted to defend herself, telling Graham,
“I’m not covering for anybody. You know that, and when I have Democrats on, I’ve asked many, all of them, about their position on where they believe this issue should be.”

The liberal host again tried to pit Graham against the Trump campaign and asked whether he agreed with the former president’s position that states should be left to decide abortion laws. Graham reminded Bash that Trump opposes late-term abortions and then added,
“Here’s what I believe, that anybody running for president who has a snowball’s chance in hell in the 2024 primary is gonna be with me, the American people and all of Europe, saying late-term abortions should be off the table. Seventy percent of people oppose late-term abortions. I am confident, over time, that’s where our nominee will be. I am confident that no Democrat will answer the question of when do you draw a line? They never get challenged, and I welcome this debate.”
