Newly Released Survey Reveals Shocking Details About Gender Clinics Pressuring Parents
As a heated debate about if minors should be able to receive ‘gender-affirming care’ continues to ensue in the United States, a shocking survey was released by the Archives of Sexual Behavior that corroborated anecdotal evidence given by parents of transgender children and former employees at gender clinics.
The survey found that, more often than not, parents of transgender children feel ‘pressured’ into controversial treatment options for their children and that parents often report worse outcomes after treatments have been administered.
One survey result found that 51.8% of parents felt pressured by gender clinics to transition their children ‘socially’ or ‘medically’ compared to only 24.6% that didn’t.

A representative from an organization that has expressed concerns about gender-affirming care given to minors said that rather than giving parents and children an array of options to treat gender dysphoria, they immediately pressured parents into ‘affirming’ the child’s identity using extreme measures such as surgical transition and hormones.
‘When they turned to their trusted medical professionals for help, they were told they must affirm their child’s newly-created identity and support their gender exploration, which means supporting them through social, medical and surgical transition,’ A Parents of Rapid Onset Gender Dysphoria Kids representative said in a statement to the DailyMail.
The organization further said that medical professionals attempted to pressure parents by warning them that their child may commit suicide if they don’t affirm their gender identity.
‘If these parents express any doubts, or ask that their child’s mental health issues be resolved first, they are warned that they are causing further emotional harm to their child — and might even drive them to suicide.’

The organization believes that some minors who have gender dysphoria are being induced to have it due to social contagion rather than genuine confusion about their gender identity.

‘They believe peers and other cultural factors are socially influencing these youths to assume a transgender identity,’ One gender researcher said.
Many parents believe that their children who are experiencing gender dysphoria may also have other mental health issues that lead them to experience gender dysphoria.
‘Parents reported many preexisting emotional problems for the youths — on average, the problems began nearly four years before the gender problems did. It is not surprising, then, that many parents were unhappy that the gender therapists they had been advised to see pushed for gender transition.’

Former employees at gender clinics have expressed similar concerns. Jamie Reed, a former employee at the Washington University Transgender Center at St. Louis Children’s Hospital, said that doctors would ask parents of transgender children questions such as ‘Do you want a dead daughter or an alive son?’ To ‘bully’ children’s parents into going ahead with gender transitions.
Still, some critics have said the survey doesn’t paint a complete picture. Alejandra Caraballo, a prominent male-to-female transitioner and Harvard Law School instructor, dismissed the parents that took the survey as ‘anti-trans parents recruited from online anti-trans sites.’
