Kamala Harris Refuses Phone Calls From Elizabeth Warren as Top Democrats Doubt VP’s Future
According to a recent report, Vice President Kamala Harris refuses to return Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s phone calls. Warren has called Harris at least twice to apologize for “insulting” comments she made on a radio show in January, only to be snubbed by the vice president.
In late January, Warren appeared on a Boston local radio show and gave a glowing endorsement of Joe Biden’s perspective 2024 re-election campaign. However, Warren seemed less certain when the topic shifted to Kamala Harris.

“I really want to defer to what makes Biden comfortable on his team,” Warren said during the interview. “I’ve known Kamala for a long time. I like Kamala. I knew her back when she was an attorney general, and I was still teaching, and we worked on the housing crisis together, so we go way back.”
“But they need, they have to be a team, and my sense is they are, I don’t mean that by suggesting I think there are any problems. I think they are.”
Democrats are divided on whether to support Harris for re-election. Critics have argued that her low poll figures are a liability to a Biden re-election campaign. Biden would be 82 at the start of a second term, and placing Harris one heartbeat away from the presidency is not a choice many Democrats want to make.
Warren and Harris were previously rivals during the 2020 election, with both reportedly seeking Joe Biden’s VP blessing. In a follow-up interview with Boston Public Radio, Warren tried to clarify that she supports Harris’ re-election.
“I fully support the President’s and Vice President’s re-election together and never intended to imply otherwise,” Warren said in a statement. “They’re a terrific team with a strong record of delivering for working families.”
While Warren has insisted that her comments were a “mistake,” a recent report by CNN says that Harris is spurning the senator’s attempts to make amends. A source close to the vice president reported that she found Warren’s comments “pretty insulting.”
Warren tried to plead her case to Harris over the phone but was refused. According to the CNN report, Harris’ chief of staff, Lorraine Voles, returned the calls. Relations have deteriorated between the two former colleagues, and the vice president’s camp reportedly views Warren’s comments as the latest in a series of barbs from top Democrats.
“Right now, she seems to be an albatross,” said one state Democratic Party chair in the report. “She’s either going to be a liability or a help. And you better embrace her because it’s not like she’s going to be off the ticket.”

“I think she’s a good person with a good heart who can lead the country. But I don’t know that the people who have to make that happen feel that way right now,” the Washington Post reported one democrat strategist saying. “I don’t know that she has what it takes to get over the hump in our present environment.”
Harris has made clear that she’ll be along for the ride if Biden announces a re-election bid.
“He intends to run, and if he does, I’ll be running with him,” Harris stated in a February interview. “We are doing historic work.”
