Fran Nachlas for Mayor: Preserving Boca Raton

Fran Nachlas, the current deputy mayor, is running for Mayor of Boca Raton with a mission to provide steady leadership for Boca Raton’s dynamic next chapter. The election will take place on March 10, 2026.

“I want to protect what we love and prepare responsibly for our future. I’ve been doing that work as our deputy mayor, and I want to continue to do it.” Nachlas told the Florida Jolt.

Nachlas is endorsed by The Fire Fighters of Boca Raton, IAFF Local 1560, Business Leaders United for Boca Raton (BLU-PAC), which is the Boca Raton Chamber of Commerce PAC, and Fraternal Order of Police (F.O.P. Lodge 35)

Nachlas has also served on the Boca Raton City Council since 2022 and as deputy Mayor since April of 2024.

“I really felt like I was in touch with what residents wanted, what residents needed,” she said, explaining her run for City Council.  “And once the seats became open, because there were two seats open on council, when I ran, I thought that running for one of them was a way for me to give back in a more meaningful way to my city,” she told the Jolt.

When asked what pushed her to run for mayor, Nachlas was clear: it was about what Boca Raton needs.

“I think Boca is moving in a direction that right now we need experienced and steady leadership as we move forward, that’s what I bring to the city, and that’s why I decided to run.”

Nachlas, a University of Florida graduate, has worked as a nurse in Florida for decades, previously chaired the Boca Raton Community Redevelopment Agency, and served on the Boca Raton Community Advisory Panel. In addition to her roles within the City of Boca Raton, Nachlas currently serves on the Palm Beach County Transportation Planning Agency governing board and the Florida League of Cities Development, Code Compliance, and Redevelopment Committee. She was also selected as one of just 14 individuals nationwide to join the prestigious Smart Growth America Champions Institute Cohort.

She went on to list some of the major projects on Boca Raton’s horizon, starting with the public lands redevelopment project she’s worked on personally.

“We have our big government campus redevelopment that is going to be on the ballot on March 10,” Nachlas said. “We worked for over a year to get it on the ballot on March 10, so that people can vote on what happens on public land.”

Nachlas also supports improving the Boca Raton Police Department so they can continue to keep Boca Raton safe.

“We also have big infrastructure needs that will be coming up, like our police department ballot question,” she continued. “That’s building a new police department for police that’s been in the works since 2001, and it is something that’s finally coming before the people to vote on.

Nachlas was sure to clarify, however, that, despite her focus on guiding the development of public works, she is committed to ensuring the burden isn’t placed on taxpayers.

“I want to make sure that we keep our taxes low. I don’t intend to raise taxes, and I want to find ways to make City Hall more efficient. And you know, one of those ways is bringing in some new technology.”

She also noted that the City Council had successfully reduced the millage rate over the last ten years, demonstrating her experience in trying to lower taxes for the people of Boca Raton.

Nachlas told Jolt that one of her primary focuses will be protecting Boca Raton and preparing it to manage the challenges ahead.

“I want to keep Boca Raton beautiful and prosperous. I support businesses. I support property rights. I do my best to support small businesses and things that are important to them, like being more efficient in government and ensuring they can thrive without some of the red tape that they’ve had to jump through before, so I would not want to move backwards.”
