Crappuccino – Starbucks is Stirring it Up with New Line of Olive Oil Coffee
Starbucks launched its new Oleato line of coffee drinks, but it’s different from the tasty, unique flavor one would expect. Move over pistachio, the flavor that’s been all the rage for the last few months, and make way for olive oil. That’s right. Starbucks’s new hot coffee trend is a line of coffee mixed with olive oil. This crappuccino is quite the shit-stirrer. Customers say you don’t just get a swig of oil with your morning latte; you may also need to rush to the nearest bathroom.

According to Better Homes and Gardens;
The Oleato line is inspired by the Mediterranean tradition of taking a spoonful of olive oil in the morning, at the same time while enjoying a cup of coffee or a shot of espresso. The Starbucks team had the idea to combine the two, and voila, the Oleato line was born.

Olive oil is a healthy fat, considered beneficial for heart health. Adding oil or butter to coffee isn’t a new trend. A few years ago, adding butter and oil to coffee was quite popular amongst those looking for a new way to keep their minds sharp and lose weight. Adding butter and oil to coffee is known as “bulletproof coffee” or “butter coffee.” Adding butter to coffee was said to provide a source of healthy fats that can help improve energy levels and mental clarity.

Bulletproof coffee typically involves blending coffee with grass-fed butter and MCT oil or coconut oil, which are high in medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs). The resulting drink is a frothy, creamy beverage that provides sustained energy and reduces hunger.
While some people swear by the benefits of bulletproof coffee, others remain skeptical of the practice. Coconut oil in coffee was also famous for a time, as it was considered heart-healthy and filling. Now some are making the same claims about olive oil in coffee.

The NY Post has come out with three articles about this new line of coffee, stating everything from being an adventurous “luxury” from Italy with the best ingredients to causing stomach issues. Some claim it makes them feel so full that they can’t eat anything all day. Some warn you to avoid this foul concoction if you have stomach issues or don’t have bathroom access.
Reddit comments and Twitter reviews range from delicious and no problems with the new line to it being a “straight-up laxative.” The NY Post describes the latte in a way that could be thought of as yummy or gross, depending on your perspective;
The line includes the Oleato caffe latte, made with its blonde espresso roast infused with extra virgin olive oil steamed with oat milk; the Oleato ice shaken espresso, with notes of hazelnut, espresso, oat milk, and olive oil; and a cold brew variety made with extra virgin olive oil, milk foam, and cold brew.
In Milan, Italy, Oleato has been available since February. As of March 23rd, it’s been available in the States but only in select Starbucks stores in Seattle, Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York. I asked Chris, a friend who always seems to know what’s new, when Oleato will make its way to Florida. His response;
A beverage that makes people crap? I’m sure real soon. Bound to be a hit in Boca.
This coffee sounds interesting to me, and given that I love Durian, a fruit many consider disgusting, I will try it but drink it at home. Better to be safe than sorry.
